Absolutely appalled that something as iconic as the horse trams are to be axed. I know my late Manx Mum would be very upset , being Douglas born and bred. Let's hope that a solution can be found to keep them running . The island won't be the same without them.

As the owner of a travel agency in Germany promoting the Isle of Man as a holiday destination, I am shocked to hear about the decision to scrap the Douglas Horse Tramway. I always recommended a ride to all my clients as it is one of the things that make the island different. Another piece of heritage gone forever!

Too often our heritage is sacrificed for a short-sighted assessment of economic benefit - while quietly and systematically destroying the very things visitors love and residents value. A false-economy if ever there was one.

No Tramway had been abandoned in its entirety since 1962. This one has ran for 139 years and is the oldest surviving Tramway still using its original motive power in the world!
Closing it would be a massive callous act of historical vandalism

I road on the horse trams the day they reopened after the war and later worked as a conductor. People in the UK and other countries ask about the horse trams. Hungary has a single tram maintained and running on a short track at a railway museum in Budapest as an attraction.

I lived in the IOM in the 70's, then visited back in the 80's and then the 90's. All the time I remember going on this. This is part of the Island!
