Douglas Horse Tramway To Be Scrapped - Manx Tourists Petiton

First visit to the island in 2015 and i personally think the traditional things on the island such as the horse trams need to stay as they are part of the island

Place your bets which will be next - electric trams or steam railway???

I am totally against scrapping the Douglas Horse Tramway. It is unique in the Isle of Man.

We visited the island as tourists specifically to see the horse drawn trams. Once there, we were impressed by the whole island as a holiday destination, but without that initial interest we would not have been as likely to visit. If the horse trams are removed, you will remove that vital link that draws in many of your visitors. Blackpool had a similar problem when it withdrew the Heritage Trams to introduce more modern alternatives - needless to say the Heritage Fleet now reappear at busy times to draw in the tourists who would not otherwise visit. IoM is in danger of suffering a similar fate. The horse drawn trams my not appear, on paper, to be making a profit, but they are an important link to the MER from Douglas centre and a vital part of the heritage transport infrastructure. I find it hard to believe the relevant authorities are being so short sighted.

The horse tram is a feature that sets Douglas apart from any other holiday destinations.

They have always been a big part of the Isle of Man. Cause I remember going back to visit family. And would if went on them when I was there.

This is just an unbelievably short sighted decision. The Horse Trams are a unique tourist attraction and one of the quaint things that visitors love about the Isle of Man. It's the same as deciding to scrap the Laxey Wheel, or stopping the Steam trains running! Surely funding could be found from the TT races or The Steam Packet. The millions of pounds generated by the Islands visitors should be put back into the unique tourist attractions. The Councillors and Politicians involved in this decision should be sacked for gross mismanagement of the Islands assets. Once the Trams are gone they're gone....

Don't loose this unique piece of transport heritage.

Keep the tram it's part of the islands history

Exactly as it says, if this goes we are unlikely to holiday in the Isle of man again.

I can't believe that something that has been around for 140 years and is synonymous with the Island is being scrapped; shocking. Save the trams.

Please save it. It really is a massive part of the islands heritage.

As visitors to the IOM for many years we are extremely upset to think that the tradition and heritage of the Manx horse tram is under threat of being discontinued. Please rethink this. It's an irreplaceable loss that is unique to the Douglas promenade. It should be continued and preserved for the future children of the island and also the enjoyment of both residents and visitors to the island.

They are part of the IOM heritage, one of the first things you see getting off the ferry and you know your back to this great island.

A vital part in the range of attractions that attracted me and many other tourists to this beautiful island

In a few years time these same people will be asking why it was closed. The thousands who visit the island each year will miss it and future viaitors might never venture to the tram sheds and manx railway

I love the Isle of Man, would be such a shame to do away with the tramway.

Please keep the horse tram running. Its part of Douglas history.

The Isle of Man government / Douglas Corporation should definitely strive to save this piece of Manx heritage, the Horse Trams are an iconic part of Douglas Promenade and I'll be sad to see them go.

losing the horse trams would be a tragedy, they are the highlight of every visit we make to the island.
