Douglas Horse Tramway To Be Scrapped - Manx Tourists Petiton

The older I get, the less I understand what is going on. However can Douglas Corporation even think about scrapping this unique and very Manx form of transport. It is unbelievable, and I hope a petition and a campaign will turn this decision around. It is like Blackpool Council threatening to demolish the Tower.

The horse trams are historic and a part of douglas that should always be there. When they start every year, i know summer is coming!

Tragic.

The horse trams are part of the Island's history. They are a key part of a holiday on the Island, a link between the electric and steam railways. Look at ways to promote them more rather than just looking at profits and scrapping them.

It is important to preserve heritage, but only a few things have a continued history like the Douglas Horse Trams, which makes it even more important not to scrap the trams, when you are young heritage does not seem important, but the people who would scrap them will live to regret it.

The Isle of Man without the horse trams is unthinkable, The government must not allow this to happen.

The Isle of Man is slowly turning its back on tourism and heritage. The line can and should be run at lower cost, without the un-neccssary capital investment in new buildings. Transfer it to Isle of Man Transport, or MER Society, but don't throw away this unique service.

The Douglas Horse tramway is one the few major tourist attractions that run daily in the summer. Lose it and Isle of Man will lose more tourists

Don't do away with your traditions, they are what makes you who you are!

A part of both the Manx and British heritage that needs to be preserved for future generations. Please think again!

Short term profits long term problems. Getting rid of even part of the Isle of Mans heritage is something that will be regretted for many many years to come. Promote the service to make it a more economic venture. Blackpool has just spent a small fortune steam cleaning its Tower - removal would have been far cheaper.

The horse tram is crucial to the tourist industry; the feature which distinguishes Douglas from every other seaside town. Like the Mersey Ferry, it is iconic. Our ferries have just escaped a similar fate. The Isle of Man government needs to step in to save the horse trams. As a means of accessing the MER, there would be further effects should the horse tram go. Tourism is still vital to the island's prosperity.

Think you need to reconsider as this is pure manx heritage and needs securing for future generations.its not yours to close.it belongs to the manx people

How can anyone think of getting rid of such a unique art of the island's heritage?

If you want to keep on killing tourism in the i.o.m then you are going the right way. Just like my home town of Blackpool, this tramway is part of the islands heritage and now unique, possibly worldwide on a promenade tramway. They must be saved and furthermore, protected from any future decision to scrap

How can they destroy something so uniquely Manx, precious and well loved. It sounds as though the lunatics have taken control of the asylum. SHAME ON YOU WHO MADE SUCH A DESPICABLE DECISION.

Keep the trams ! Open the museum under the electric tramway sign on MORE DAYS then more people will have occasion to be there and potentially use the horse tram.

All my non manx friends who have visited the IOM are very impressed witht he horse trams and make a point of going on them with children or grandchildren. They are fantastic and scrapping them would make the IOM less unique and interesting. Potential visitors say to me ...TT races, cats with no taills and trams...these are the imortant to tourists visiting. Keep the trams!!
