Douglas Horse Tramway To Be Scrapped - Manx Tourists Petiton

This is a major draw to the island and historically symbolic. It is integral to the identity of the island

Waste of time, money and taxes. Dangerous for bikers in the wet, cause nothing but delays, traffic and the horses make nothing but mess. #stickeminafield

It will be a crime to scrap such a tourist attraction and part oif Manx heritage

How can you scrap something that the Island is recognized for?

Keep the douglas horse trams

Please keep the tramlines in place, and enable the return of horse trams when circumstances improve. Trams on the Prom are a big draw for many visitors. My mother was resident, my father born on the Island. Both would have objected were they still with us.

The Horse Tramway should continue the entire way to the Sea Terminal, otherwise it becomes less viable. This unique tramway is a major asset to the Isle of Man - including for promotion. I hope it is still there in a couple of years time - I hope to have a family holiday with my young daughter. Without the Horse Tramway it is far less likely that we will come.

A unique attraction that must be preserved.

It would be an utter disgrace for the Isle of Man's Douglas Corporation to shorten or close this Unique heritage tram line.

This is so typically short sighted for an island that purports to want to have a tourism industry. Other resorts would kill for such a lovely genuinely Victorian attraction and yet this government intends to preside over the closing of it. The egaming and finance sectors MUST be contributing enough to the Treasury for the trams to be subsidised - or even sponsored??

Keep the horse trams they are part of the IOMs history. Too many do gooders have tried to get rid of your traditions. It might cost Douglas Corporation money but look at the bigger picture your hotels are desperate for more visitors. Don't get rid of the attractions unique to your beautiful island.

The town of Douglas stretches for more than two miles along the coast. The Horse Tramway provides an essential end-to-end transport link giving a sense of cohesion between all parts of the town. Heritage is what we received in trust from previous generations and will pass on to future generations. If the horse trams are scrapped, that trust is destroyed for ever. Keep the Horse Trams!

I am appalled to read about the cutting back of the Douglas horse trams when thought should be given to extending the line to Douglas station and making it really useful while preserving the very heritage that brings me back to the island to ride those trams again and again.

Will this be another unique Manx heritage asset destroyed by the bungling bureaucrats...?

I cannot see the sense in destroying part of this beautiful island's famous transport heritage. Please change your minds - there is enough room for the tramway, even if it is moved to one side of the road to separate it from other traffic, if that is a worry.

This is Manx Heritage, if this goes what next!

How much more has to go before it's totally ruined in the name of progress . Maybe a four lane motorway to Peel and Ramsey will be next!!!!!!!

The horse trams are a vital attraction for both Douglas and the IOM, it would be madness to fundamentally alter the tramway in any way.

An important part of the islands history. To scrap this historic system would be an act of vandalism.
