Closing this will have a serious detrimental effect on tourism to the Isle of Man; the "old world" atmosphere is one of the biggest draws. Yet they want to close the high profile bit in the middle that links the other two heritage systems on the island??? This is a very Balrickesque plan and it will end up costing them far more than the £2.9m they are trying to save.

I've visited the IOM on numerous occasions and ridden on the MER, steam trains....and the Horse Tram. The loss of the latter would be a terrible blow to the overall attraction of the Island.

I understand balancing budgets is important for the residents of today - but this is the end of something so special. You cannot turn back the clock and the Isle of Man has been unique in preserving snapshots of a bygone era... Please think again?

We were going to come and visit for the 140th anniversary. For our boys the horse trams are the highlight of a visit. So clearly we are not coming now. On the ferry accommodation and a week on the island we would have spent we'll over a thousand pounds. So it only takes 200 other visitors to do the same - and let's be honest for a family to visit in peak season is not cheap - and the island economy makes a net loss. It seems unbelievable how little the island seems to value its visitor attractions.

The horse trams are such an iconic feature of the island, one reason I visited last year with my children was to allow them to enjoy a tram ride as I did many times as a child. I sincerely hope the island finds an economically viable way of saving the service in some way.

this is a real unique feature of Manx life and should be preserved. Don't make a huge mistake and get rid of it.

It may lose money but the goodwill raised by this wonderful system is incalculable to the Island and to close it would be to the detriment of tourism. I for one would not want to visit simply because the IOM Government appears to have little understanding of why tourists come to the IOM, they come because of the unique transport which will no longer be unique. Short-sighted and blinkered.

Always loved seeing this in Douglas and used it on my last visit as a good, fun (and environmentally friendly) way of getting from our hotel to the town. When something becomes rare it becomes a tourist attraction in it's own right. It was lovely to see those beautiful (and well kept) horses pulling the trams. I urge you to look beyond the numbers. Whilst the trams might not make money alone how many people have fond memories and returned to the island, or recommended others visit because of the tram?
