Douglas Horse Tramway To Be Scrapped - Manx Tourists Petiton

I very much enjoy the trams and think that if they were to be done away with, the beautiful Douglas Promenade would lose a big part if it's character. Please keep the trams! I am an American who is in love with your lovely Isle of Man.

I have always used the tram when visiting the IOM

Please don't. The IOM's unique transport is part of what makes me come back.

The horse tram was one of the highlights of our stay in Douglas. Would be criminal to abolish it.

We are regular visitors to the IOM and would greatly miss this unique asset.

This is a heritage asset which is unique in Britain and rarely to be found anywhere in the world. It is vital to find a means for its continuation, although not necessarily by municipal/state ownership.

The oldest working horse drawn tramway in the world! This forms part of the IOM transport heritage which is why we visit the IOM every year. The Manx government need to step in now and save this valuable asset before its too late. In the same way as the MER & steam railway are operated by the government. Perhaps a government financed / voluntary partnership is viable. Please do all you possible can to save the horse tramway!

This decision has been made by bean counters; not people interested in the tourist trade to the Island.

Sadly another situation where they will not realise the value of what they have, until it is gone and cannot be replaced. Numpties!

What are you doing with your heritage? How can you scrap this important piece of your history? ...... in favour of more parking?

The only one left in the world. Surely the value of that distinction must be recognised and efforts made to save and promote it.

The tramway was a delightful find, and added to our visit.

please don't scrap the wonderful horse trams - they are the most charming original remaining feature along the Promenade in the summer.

Doulas without horse drawn trams ? STUPID OR WHAT ?

The people in charge are deluded at present moment. They have lined their own pockets with cushy pension deals and made all these cuts for rest of us to cope with. I appreciate that the trams cost money but in comparison with what the current government sees fit to waste tax payers money on its a drop in the ocean. They want to pay millions to redo the prom, but the reason why people come is due to its history. Once it's gone it's gone. Our heritage is precious and hopefully this iconic part of our culture will outlive the shortsighted and selfish policies of our present government.
