This would be an absolute disaster. The fact that the Isle of Man is the only place left in the world where Horse drawn Trams, Nineteenth Century Steam Railway Engines and Rolling Stock, Electric tram cars, Adhesion-traction Electric Mountain Trams, Ancient village life, Ancient parliamentary practice (Tynwald, and Old House of Keys), 150 year old gigantic Victorian Water Wheels, Ancient Maritme History, Ancient Viking History, Ancient Castles, Heritage Museums, etc. still existmatters not a jot; - scrap the lot! Then there would be nothing much left to entice visitors to the Island (see copy of our brochure attached for our third visit and see - if all this heritage were to be scrapped - would it be worth coming over to the Island?) You would still have the Financial Market to come and see, of course: what a thrill that woud be!!! Closing the Horse Trams would be the 'thin end of the wedge'. There is a solution: change the person hammering on the wedge. If it is too much of a burden to Douglas Corporation, by all means hand over the Horse Tramway to the Government, but to close it? Completely crazy. - have another think.The end result of a 'short term-ist' decision to close it would result to a tremendous loss off tourism income to the Islands coffers in future years. As a family we use the horse tramway on a regular basis having visited the island for several years. If the horse tramway goes then it will be steam railway and the electric railway. If IOM wants tourists then they have to keep these unique historical modes of transport - its what makes IOM special.

This is just another example of actions that have made the Island far less attractive to transport enthusiast following on from the "moderisation" of Laxey on the MER

Don't close such an icon for the IOM. The loss of this asset will impact on the tourist market, which brings in much needed revenue for the Island. It is part of the heritage of the Island and contributes to the economy of Douglas.

PLEASE reconsider this proposal, the horse tramway is a unique part of the islands heritage and come to that Great Britans !

We used to come over every year for the TT races in the '60's and 70's, we now have friends living on the Island who we are looking forward to visiting sometime soon, and doing all the old haunts, all the Bay's and inlets as well as the Laxey Wheel and other Heritage sights, the trams and tramways, etc., etc., the trip up the mountain if that is still running, never done it, couldn't afford it in the '60s/70s.......!

I love the horse tramway and have been to IOM 3 times now from Australia and have travelled on it each time, progress isn't always a good thing and the Horse Tramway always brings a smile as you walk up the promenade please reconsider this hasty decision

The horse trams are unique and are one of the special features that draw be back to island as a tourist again and again. I'd suggest extending the Horse Trams to link up with the Steam Railway. Make the most of what you have.

I visited the Isle of Man last year - the first time since 1974, it was such a thrill to experience a ride on the horse trams again, I hope they last another 100 years

Save our horse trams - how blind some our to what we have - They are our Heritage to be passed on to future generations, just as the Laxey Wheel, Castle Rushen or the MER and Steam Railway. The latter two items in this list where very nearly lost due to the same short sighted ignorance that Douglas Corporation have just shown. They think its more important to spend £680,000 on a new library or £100,000's on a municiple golf course.

I attend the tt every year from Canada and I love the horse drawn trams . it would be a sad day to lose them.

Don't get rid of your history. You will be just like the rest of the moronic masses and there wont be any reason to visit another drab polluted dump.

As a former Douglas Prom resident, it saddens me to hear about this disastrous decision. It must be overturned!

Dont believe this is even being thought about one of the things that sets the Island apart from many other tourist destinations please do not do this to my place of birth
