Douglas Horse Tramway To Be Scrapped - Manx Tourists Petiton

Douglas Horse Trams - unique survivor in the world - it is quite unthinkable for this line to be scrapped, but perhaps unfair that Douglas Corporation should carry the whole responsibility. Surely time for the Manx Government to step in and recognise its charm and attraction which so beautifully complement the other Manx Transport treasures. It could perhaps then be operated - and marketed - more actively.

The only reason I visited the Isle of Man for several days whilst on a holiday from Australia, was to ride ALL off the vintage transport. Kill the horse tram and it is less attractive to ever return.

The Douglas Horse Tramway is a big part of the Isle of Man's heritage. As the Island economy relies heavily on tourism, it would seem extremely short sighted to dispose of one of the islands main attractions.

The heritage tram is worth its weight in gold & was one major reason for my recent visit.

Douglas would be the poorer without the horse tramway. Please look for ways to help to save it.

Please don't discontinue the horse tram, it will be a dreadful letdown to visit IOM again and not be able to travel on the horse tram.

This is unique to the island, it would be so sad to see this wonderful iconic tram system to be completely removed for all time, and never to run again. Please retain this lovely system, I can only think that it would be a massive loss to the tourist trade and the island, what ever were these people thinking of.

I use this every time I visit my family on the IoM, it'd be a mistake for it to go.

This decision is so short sighted, the horse tramway must not be left to die.

I will be having second thoughts visiting the isle from Australia if the horse tram is scrapped.

The Isle of Man is a unique place in this world, you have already lost some things which contributed to this, so please don't lose this one as well.

Please do no let the horse trams go, I spent all my childhood holidays in Douglas, have returned many times since for 'trips down memory lane' and am planning to visit again this year and to introduce a friend to your wonderful island. Part of what makes Douglas so attractive is the noise of the horse trams as they make their way along the prom. In Scotland it is the enthusiasm, and hard working volunteers who help keep the steam trains in operation. I'm sure you must have similar enthusiasts on the island who can contribute their energy and willingness to work and raise funds for such a worthwhile cause. To lose the trams could contribute to a decline of visitors and that would be very sad.

Wouldn't be the same without the tram, part and parcel of the front.

As a former Manx resident, I feel that this unique transport system must not be lost.

As a unique historical asset, the horse tramway is on a par with San Francisco's cable cars - designated by US Government as a National Landmark..

I agree. It would definitely impact negatively on visitor numbers and spending.

This is really is unique and is the most wonderful tourist asset. Other places eg Bruges and Valletta make so much of their horse transport, and are known for it. It would be a huge mistake to get rid of this.

I travelled on the Horse Tramway on a couple of occasions in May last year, and I enjoyed it very much. It would be a great shame if the link between the two railways was taken away, and I urge the people who are responsible to think again.
