Bring back this market, in an economy where there is very little jobs available, it makes no sense to further cripple this economy. Vendors have tried to create a source of income for themselves and do good in this community!

Despite fulfilling all requested application requirements and addressing the municipality's concerns regarding pedestrian access, designated trading space, and urban planning, the market has been denied without the opportunity for appeal. This decision not only disrupts a cherished community gathering space but also stifles the livelihood of many local traders and small business owners.
The Dorp Street Sunday Market team has gone above and beyond to comply with municipal regulations, including presenting a detailed site development plan and providing sufficient space for pedestrian movement, as confirmed by law enforcement. Continuing this market aligns with Stellenbosch’s commitment to supporting local businesses, fostering economic resilience, and providing a safe, family-friendly space for the community to come together.

The municipality being so happy to arbitrarily ban the market serves an indictment of the DA as a governing party. The blithe disregard for the livelihoods of the market vendors AND the foot traffic their market brings to the permanent businesses on Dorp Street and throughout the greater Stellenbosch area shows that the municipality is utterly disinterested in supporting small businesses. Both the vendors and customers are your constituents and neither group seems to be at all pleased with you. Please course correct ASAP.

As a business (A Good Find Vintage) that has been trading Dorp Street Sunday Market since 2020, we've been fortunate enough to witness how this market brought a life force back into a town that was struggling to fight the oppression of lockdown. It managed to not only create a viable platform for small business to generate incomes to sustain their families, but it also brought hope back to the locals & residents. More importantly- it created a network of entrepreneurs that transcended race, gender and class who became family in this "new normal." A dynamic municipality would recognize the ingenuity of such an initiate and provide the support necessary to help it grow and thrive, to act in the interest of your citizens and NOT POLICE IT and insist that it fits into your bylaws and guidelines without providing any viable explanation.
