The half block in Mobile county has become an integral part of our school day. The decision to remove the block will effectively discontinue dozens of elective classes and dismantle an evolved study hall period. This petition is just a small show of discontent with the changes; further action is probable in the future.

im hearing from so many of you about how much those elective classes actually mean to our daily routine. honestly its been a rough week behind the scenes but seeing your stories keeps me motivated to keep pushing back on this decision.

i cant believe how much energy is behind this movement right now. seeing everyone come together to protect our time is seriously incredible and it shows they cant ignore us forever.

Many AP classes are offered during hornet block. Also, academic teams like scholars bowl use hornet block to prepare for the season.

They shouldn't take it away. They should take the time to figure out which hornet blocks to take away. In some hornet blocks, people actually have a class and that class can only be taught during Hornet Block. Some teachers rarely teach in their HB classes, and I believe those should be the only HB classes taken away, or the teachers should teach. Dont take jazz band, dance, piano, FACS, event planning, fashion, and all of the other classes away. This will just make Baker High School a little bit harder than usual to go through the day. And what about CO-OP students? Think about these things.

Hornet block gives people time to make up work that they missed when sick, and helps people make more friends. My hornet block has gotten me to make more friends because in jazz band we all have to work together to sound good, and not just sound good on your own. It challenges us and makes us better musicians for any music thing we attempt. Removing hornet block would take that away from a lot of people

I understand the reasoning behind removing hornet block. Im a senior this year, so the change really doesn’t effect me. That being said, hornet block has always been a crucial part of the day for me. It’s always been that point in the day where I get to breath. I am in the jazz program here at Baker high school, and I think that pushing the arts (Jazz band, Bakers Dozen, ect) is very important. It has helped me not only academically by challenging me with difficult music where i hone my problem solving, but it has also helped me socially, by introducing me to many new friends. I hope Mobile County Atleast considers this petition. I would hate for future Baker hornets to miss out the experiences I’ve had from hornet block.

When will people receive academic help? Before and after school could be off limits or nonaccessible to certain students due to socioeconomic situations or just other activities.

I would appreciate it a lot if you did not obliterate Hornet Block at Baker High School. I will miss Jazz Band GREATLY!
