I live here abutting this Building and with JUST A RESTAURANT Opening, I can deal with the Minimal Noise/Parking of patrons. But Past experience with this Building has yielded too Much Noise from parties and events from Previous owners. Extra Rowdy/Intoxicated Patrons from a Gambling establishment will definitely not MIX with this Family Neighborhood- Please Deny any Permits for such an endeavor. I suggest their placement to a Commercial District area where any threats and dangers will be Contained.

I am against legalized gambling on Capitol Hill. I have written Charles Allen to ask his support to prevent this business from opening. This establishment does not belong in a neighbor with children and religious institution. Everyone should write and call Charles Allen councilperson Ward 6

The area this is being proposed for is a family oriented area, not just a business area. It is close to several churches. It is a place people go with their children. The clientele who will be attracted to such a place and the threat of crime will change the neighborhood completely. This kind of establishment does not belong in that neighborhood!

Gambling brings consequences, lots of them, many of which are violent and illegal collection methods. DC should not allow this anywhere. Let the now legal bookies collect their debts in commercial wearhouse districts that are isolated away from residential areas.

I strongly oppose gambling in our residential neighborhood, a block from at least one school with numerous others just a few blocks away. I am concerned about the violence and non-residential traffic this will bring.

This is not the type of establishment that is needed in the neighborhood, let alone, so close to an elementary school. Besides bringing more crime in, logistically, there isn’t adequate parking as is in this part of CH. This is an all around terrible idea for the neighborhood.

A bar and restaurant are fine. But a sports book would bring far too much traffic.

Unlike the other local businesses, they are not focused on the people in the neighborhood. “We think there’s a lot of different transportation options at that location as well, which I think is going to allow us to really expand our customer base and have a sportsbook that can serve the entire city and the surrounding areas in Northern Virginia and Maryland,” Ian Thomas, outside general counsel for Handle19, said in an interview. https://www.google.com/amp/s/novacapsfans.com/2020/05/31/new-sportsbook-business-handle19-forges-ahead-with-plans-to-open-in-dc-this-fall-despite-covid-19-pandemic/amp/

I live approximately seven blocks from this location and walk by it multiple times per day throughout the course of daily life. I am very concerned about the increase in violence that the owners have acknowledged is likely to be associated with their new business, as well as the impact that this violence could have on other establishments in the area. With so many people being forced to eat outdoors during the pandemic, adding an increased level of insecurity to this block will likely encourage diners to eat elsewhere at a time when restaurants cannot afford to lose local customers. This impact could be especially acute and painful for existing restaurants on that block, given their popularity with tour groups and how the loss of Hill tourists and lower staff levels have already hurt their bottom lines.

I'm ok with a liquor license in principle, but not the gambling. I agree with those who mention an increase in violence and crime associated with gambling. Please do not allow gambling at this location!!

Everyone has a place. And I understand sports and gambling are a hobby for some, but can’t the location be reconsidered for this establishment? It doesn’t mix to have this a few blocks from a school, let alone a residential neighborhood and other parks, daycares, etc. please reconsider! Keep our neighborhood safe!!

I live within 4 blocks of this establishment with my three children (who also attend school very near this address) and I strongly oppose gambling at this location. I urge our commissioners to deny this application.
