There has been a long tradition for how a beach boy is able to become a Waikiki beach boy. You had to go through an apprenticeship overseen by the old timers and if you did a good job you would be issued your license. The license was earned and with it came the pride in knowing that your work ethic was in line with the traditions of the original Waikiki beach boys allowing you to enjoy that title.

My uncle oka has been a beach boy since before I was born, LONG before. Everyday he’s down at that beach. Teaching and doing what he knows how to do so well.
Now there’s a lot of people making a fuss about “this haole guy” but for me, it has nothing to do with the color of his skin or where he is from. In his post about his new company Dive Oahu, he has made it clear that his reasoning behind it all was $$$. And that right there is red light and my biggest reason for signing this petition. Nothing good ever came from someone that is money hungry and has no interest in the well being of their employees, whether they are from the previous company or new. Seems to me this guys only intention is making money and doesn’t really care about taking into consideration how he will affect people lives by his actions. Respect the Hawaiian way and see that these old timers are here (and have been here). We take what we know and we pass it on not just to our keiki but to everyone we come in contact if given the chance. Aloha always. Give the uncles and braddahs what they deserve!

Some things must remain “local.” What’s going to happen to the real Hawai’i if we make this new change? North Shore has changed already. Every time I go home visit my ohana, I feel like I’m the outsider in my own a’ina. Keep da local beach boys!

These beach boys are well qualified for their jobs. Letting someone from the mainland with no experience in surfing run the buissest beach on the island is not only a safety hazard but an embarrassment to the surfing culture as a whole

Keep the local knowledge and lifestyle on the beaches. This is one part of society that does not need change. Ill trust a guy in boardshorts in the ocean before a preppy uniformed salesmen.

We are Hawaii because of our history and culture, it is now for sale and we're not having it. We already sell too much land to out of state people, when will it end?

You can take the man away from the beach but you can’t take the beach away from the man. Howcome all these haole people taking all our work? This is why we have so much homeless people in Oahu! Because they taking all the jobs.
