I'm a travel writer who has been covering Hawaii and Pacific Islands for 20 years. Actions like this degrade a place's identity and sever the connection between locals and visitors. As a writer, the Beach Boy tradition is golden; that's what people want to read about and experience. Scrubbing the genuine history of a place and replacing it with consumer culture blandness is bad business. It's also unethical. This is Hawaii. Native Hawaiians and Hawaiian-owned businesses should be given preference.

This cannot happen. It wil ruin people dreams and hopes of going to Hawaii and having that real life beach boy experience that people have had since surfing first started. Please dont let this happen. I have been surfing for over 35 years and I get it. This is just corporate take over B.S.

We need the beach boys cause I, as a surfer, have always looked up to them! I'm 16 and I want to protect the culture that these beach boys and kūpuna have always been apart of and protected themselves.

Keep Waikiki beach Hawaiian. There is no aloha without the Hawaiian beach boys. Our culture and our kuleana to share these islands with malihini the right way. That’s what everyone falls in love with! So why is our government trying to change things so important to the perpetuation of our culture!! We need to think about what Hawaii will look like in the far off future. We have a special culture and it should be celebrated. We should be willing to pay for that at the very least. We see enough change and overdevelopment for money. We don’t ask for much!! We need to keep this unchanged in perpetuity. Mahalo nui loa.
