I haven’t been on the island nearly long enough to consider myself local, but I’ve worked in Waikiki’s food service industry for quite some time. One of the good things about my job is that I get to meet so many people from around the world and get to hear about their experience with Hawaii and how much they love the place I now call home. More than once I’ve had people tell me that they didn’t expect Hawaii to be so “touristy”. It’s hard to find local food, local Hawaiians and even local traditions. It’s sad to say, but their comments are correct. As someone who isn’t from Hawaii, I agree 100%. The ONE authenticity that I can count on day in and day out to remind me that I’m in Hawaii and not some other warm weathered city with a beach close by is The Beach Boys! I can’t say that I’m friends with them, but I know many of them well enough that we recognize each other and greet each other accordingly. These guys are great. Very professional and friendly. I’m not sure what this new company will do to disrupt the positivity that come from these guys and girls working on the beach, but I don’t believe that this change is for the better. Let’s keep the little piece of originality that is still Hawaiian alive.

I started surfing in Waikiki with my parents on out first vacation... back in '78... learned from the beach boys and to this day... i make sure to use them for boards, chairs and umbrellas... please allow them to continue

Keep the thinga the way they are. No new cimpany , wirh no prior expwrience or histiry, shoyld be able to come in and just take over. Waikiki will not have the same posirive vibe without the Beach Boys. This is something i look forward to, every time i go to visit.

Bummed to hear big money is taking the soul away from the community of Waikiki. The Beach Boys have been a staple there for over 100 years, money cannot take that away. We are seeing this happen all over the country right now and it has to stop through our voice and right to vote.
