Don’t Let Santa Cruz Erase 100 Years of Tradition — Protect Our Family’s Roosters and the History of Live Oak

I support families being able to continue the long-held tradition of having chickens - including roosters - on their property.

I am a lifetime resident of Santa Cruz county and currently live in Live Oak and I throughly approve of this petition to allow roosters to continue to reside in our neighborhoods ~ what is wrong with our leadership in SC these days?! Stop destroying our countys culture (rapidly) and find ways to honor and embrace it ~ one person should not be able to cancel out a 100+ year family tradition of owning these pets and for others as well that have rosters in the area - whoever in leadership that allowed (approved) this to happen should be fired. Not the type of leadership that I want representing our town.

I love chickens even roosters. Nostalgic even though I never grew up in a rural place. I have never been bothered by city chicken coops . Nature's alarm clocks. LOL

I run a rooster sanctuary. Roosters have value as sentient beings. If you ban roosters you are discriminating against them just for being male. You are also denying families the right to feed themselves. This is the worst type of government oversight. We should be into supporting a families self sufficiency

Let this family and their roos be.

The song of a pet rooster is preferable to illegal fireworks, barking dogs and traffic noise. Please allow rooster to stay in our neighborhood.

Pls don’t hurt this rooster. Stop the madness.

Let parcels like the McCrea's be grandfathered in! It wasn't that long ago that Live Oak was rural - don't erase that history!

In desperate conditions, chickens can save lives.

LEAVE THAT ROOSTER ALONE!! It’s not hurting anyone. It’s their right to own it anyway. Stop making dumb laws!! I have several roosters and I love all of them. It’s their property they can do what they want they pay for that not anyone else.

As a fellow chicken mama (of multiple hens and roosters) I would like to voice my support of Owl and his family. Despite the current public opinion of chickens, and roosters in general, those of us who raise and love them know how precious they are, not just as a food source, but as beloved pets. Roosters make some of the most loyal and loving companion animals. They defend their flocks to the death and when raised with love and kindness, they return that affection to their humans. They are no different than the family dog or cat. Please do not force this young boy to surrender his cherished pet. Thank you.

This is a long time, generational, established home that has always had chickens. Why the change now?
