Don’t Let Santa Cruz Erase 100 Years of Tradition — Protect Our Family’s Roosters and the History of Live Oak

We need to protect our homesteading heritage. Roosters are a part of this tradition .

Roosters need to be protected, not discarded and made to be illegal!

In a world full of barking dogs & noisy lawn mowers, honking cars, and construction it is absolutely cruel to require a family to give up their pet due to a single or even multiple noise complaints. This type of ruling over the situation is what is causing the mass dumping of roosters and animal cruelty they then face by people across the nation. We can’t make an essential pillar to poultry keeping illegal as it just leads to an endless problem. If we make them illegal we make ALL noises illegal or we go home. We do not bias against one animal in particular.

Roosters are already one of mistreated and abandoned animals in the world.Even the law makes it so clear that they don’t care about them at all

There were chickens & roosters on the adjacent properties when I moved here in 1989, and they are gone now. I miss hearing the roosters! The sound of the roosters, the waves and occasionally the sea lions - how lucky I felt to live in Santa Cruz.

Chicken and Roosters are pets like any others and this Rooster is a precious pet to this young boy and a family tradition and legacy too.

I live in the Morrissey area. I used to hear a rooster every morning when I would jump online to work at 6 AM. Loved hearing him. My guess is someone complained and now he’s gone. Hope your son is able to keep Owl. He is absolutely a very handsome rooster.

Please don't allow this injustice to happen.

These groms need this , that love and care for these chickens , have deep love for these animals they chose them , how dare you try to take a chicken from a kid ! I love maya and her family , Santa Cruz your weak if you take chickens , you have 1 and about 1 million other things to worry about ! Keep the chickens safe!!!!

This is ridiculous! Dogs barking and those complaints don’t prompt officials to make pet owners get rid their animals.

Owl has his rightful place in Live Oak!

Please, do not ruin a true family tradition of this absolutely beautiful family , who I know several generations of. This would be heartbreaking and is beyond why this is even addressed. This clearly is someone who is not locally from Santa Cruz and understands being real, being organic, showing love to the children and their memories of growing up, as did their grandfather, as did his daughter, as doing the children. Please be humble and let happiness be. You are in a beach town, I'm not sure what you were expecting. Please do not make them have to something that will be hurtful, and is not hurting anyone .
