Two reasons this is a terrible idea:
1) Fencing off part of the park won't make it any safer or cleaner for school use - it will simply become a rubbish bin and would need to be cleaned out anyway. Keeping the whole park open and visible actually helps it stay cleaner!
2) This is a public green and is to be used as such. The school would only use it for a very small amount of time each week and for only 2/3 of the year. All other local families and users would be restricted in their use of this space for the whole year.
The trade off is simply not worth it as in any case it would not achieve the goal of a cleaner space.
All of the parents I know linked to the school are against this idea, anyway!

This is an area used all year round by the local community, most of who have tiny gardens if at all. This is community green space!!

I have read everyone's comments and they do need a fair hearing. If the process is flawed then firstly I suggest correcting this problem so that everyone who has an interest is heard equally .

I am totally against this decision to fence areas of play for the school children .my child attended St marys school + had numerous sports days at the park. The park area just needs a warden to monitor what goes on thus helping to keep it a clean play area for all ages to enjoy .

I regularly use thus park. I live in Rowlands Road and this is the nearest green space to me. Other than that it is goring gap or home field. .. both quite a distance to walk as I do not drive!! I exercise my dog here, and I clean up after him. If I find litter on the ground or other dog poo I pick that up too. If the children are playing outside I keep to the other side of the park as any sensible person would. This fence is a ludicrous idea. Victoria Park is for the use of everyone. If the school does not have playing fields why should everyone suffer as a result?? As if a fence could stop stranger danger?? Am sure if school arranged time with crp checked parents, they could ensure children's safety. Also local residents could work with school to ensure litter etc is picked up. Let's face it... allow this through and how long before chest wood school get a fenced area in home field park too?? After all, they use home field park for sports activities.

This would be a shame to fence a public area off. Is the school paying for this fencing out of their budget I wonder or are we as council tax payers going to pay for something that isn't needed and will not be effective.

I went to this school as a child. Never had any stranger dangers or poo problems. Seems ridiculous to me in all honesty
