If the city can afford to pay atrocious overtime pay to cops to drive around or hang out on the corner taunting people in the Mission during big events, or to pay for surveillance cameras all over our neighborhoods, I’m sure we could afford to keep swim classes at Garfield open. Stop investing in cops and perpetual trauma and start investing in the literal well being of the people of this community especially the most marginalized. Can’t wait to vote out the frauds this November.

The city already operates under business hours the average working person cannot attend. Saturday was the only time I could make it for lap swim. At least you’re giving us Saturday, but by taking away Friday, the demand will likely be higher. The hours for lap swim are also way early for a Sunday. I’d rather lap swim hours be after work daily and swim lessons after school daily so we can all use the pool. I am frustrated that I can barely use this expensive pool.

Hey, some of you probably know me as the pool mermaid. As someone who lives with a mental heath disorder, I rely on swimming at Garfield as a way to regulate my mental and physical health, especially in winter because I get seasonal affective disorder real bad when there's no sun. I think pools should be accessible to children, especially after school and on weekends. I think pools should be accessible to working class people before/after work, seniors, and anyone else who wants to swim. I also think rec center staff and lifeguards should have the resources and funding to be able to make all the above possible. There IS a way to do all that, but cutting Friday and Saturday from the schedule ain't it.

I have been trying to get my child to learn to swim through SF Parks since she was 1... It's very, very hard. The Garfield swim classes START before she is even out of her SFUSD school so weekdays are impossible and now they have cut weekend swim classes? Even if I wanted to drive to other pools in the South part of SF, every level 3 class has 15+ people on the waiting list! It's really sad swimming skills are not prioritized in this city - SWIMMING LESSONS SAVE LIVES.

Please expand the swim lessons, at common sense times for working families. We've been trying to get our kids in for years and live around the corner, and have resorted to going to the JCC, which makes no sense when we have a great pool right here.
Please also expand the recreational hours to times most people have available for leisure. It seems most of the pools hours correspond to the times most San Franciscans are at work, which assures the fewest number of people have access to the pool in their free time.

We live a few blocks away and regularly use the pool. However, we haven’t once managed to get our kids into a class there. Such a shame.

Garfield Pool is a vital COMMUNITY resource. As a longtime swimmer I treasure this pool. Cutting weekend hours is an attack on working parents. Please keep the pool open!

Public pools are funded by taxpayers and they are there to provide wellbeing for the community. Let the SF public pools be open 6 days a week .
