Do not cut Medicaid Benefits for our Seniors in Long Term Care. Other Medicaid cuts may be needed, but Long Term care and our Seniors need their benefits.

These cuts WILL cause nursing homes to close and cost our seniors the quality care they deserve. Nursing homes CANNOT survive these cuts unless they stop taking Medicaid patients.

As I enter my facility this morning, I am met with several outreached hands from our residents. Some who are reaching need care and others simply need the touch of a hand or a kind word. Many of our residents have no one but us. We help them with bathing, dressing, eating their meals, and attending activities that they are interested in. In the past couple of weeks I, as well as many other health care providers, have felt the overwhelming need to speak out for our elders. The proposal is to cut Medicaid funding for nursing homes. I really wonder if efforts have been made to look for places there is waste instead of looking to take from our elderly who have nothing left to give. The Medicaid rate in Illinois is already one of the lowest and we are seeking to lower it even more. Medicaid providers canot continue to give more with less. This letter may be viewed as just another letter from someone who doesn't want to lose her job. Well, I would be a liar if I said I don't need my job because I certainly do. I love my job as well, which is the biggest reason anyone in healthcare remains there. I feel stongly that as a whole, we look to take away from the elederly instead of giving back to them what they have given to others all their lives. The residents in my facility, as well as many other facilities, have nothing left to give (monetarily) and no one else to depend on for their care. Please take a look at what other areas could possibly be reduced in order to continue to provide the care for the residents who actually built and believed in this government we call a Democracy. This cut will be disastrous in all aspects of how we care and treat our residents.

It is very disheartening to think that our seniors are being considered as a service that can be cut so drastically. When did it become ok to cut an area that provides quality medical services, a place that they can call home and the loving care provided by dedicated licensed/certified staff to our seniors. They are human beings that have work hard all their lives, paid thier dues to sociatey and the goverment and now a group of individuals that need to balance a budget think that this is the area that should be cut so drastically. (Of course they think this is the area to cut because many of these seniors cannot even speak, walk, feed or toilet themselves, and many do not even have family to help represent them we are their family.) These seniors deverve better, they are not an option, they are wonderful, knowledge able human beings who need to be treated with dignity, respect, love and compassion in their final years. Please take a better look at where these cuts can be made our elderly deserve that.

Please show some respect for elderly and don't cut LTC providers.. Who can surviver a 12% cut or $20 per day that they depend upon for survival? There must be a better way, let's start now to find that way. Thanks.
