This outdoor centre should not be closed as they keep on shouting that kids are obese these places should be kept open to have outdoor activities to keep them active

Carlingwark Centre in Castle Douglas, is a facility that Glenluce PS P6 & P7 students excitedly visit annually for a residential trip. For many, it is their first taste of staying away from home. The Centre provides excellent active outdoor experiences at affordable costs for rural communities. The end of this service for private alternatives, will no doubt prove prohibitive in allowing our school to continue to run residential experiences. Let’s get the Council to reconsider its priorities - namely investing in our young people.

The decision to close these facilities show absolute ignorance of what children and young people need to build self esteem, develop resilience and access skills beyond the classroom setting. Outdoor education provides experience that many children are not given by their parents. Simple skills such as riding a bike and reading a map. A child that experiences outdoor education literally glows for days after.

Surely we should be encouraging youngsters to take part in outdoor activities. Too many glued to phones etc

It is becoming more and more important to get children outdoors, learning and being active. Carlingwalk offers a great facility and it will be a real loss to the area if it is closed.
