I live a block away from the rooster that was the subject of complaints. I'm retired and am usually home all day. I have never heard the rooster crow. The rooster was relocated by the owner after the first complaint, yet one or two neighbors continued to badger our councilman, who caved to their demands. Problem should have been dealt with using the existing noise ordinance. I want a ban on train whistles at the docks, any outdoor live music downtown, and church bell that chimes every hour. These wake me up at night. I've never been bothered by a rooster.

Please don't ban the roosters. They protect the hens from dogs and cats and anything else that wants to harm them.

Please allow me to correct the above statement. Animal Control was working with the owner and the owner was trying to solve the problem; the coop was moved and fortified to try and reduce the sound level. The rooster owner purchased an anti-crowing collar which helped some...but was not enough. At some point the complainants turned to their Councilperson. I was told by the rooster owner that complaints were still called in for a week or two "after" he had rehomed the rooster! This sounds more like a nasty neighbor issue than a rooster issue. Regardless...if the rooster is violating the City's noise ordinance...then the rooster needs to go.

Not sure what incident occurred, but a knee jerk reaction is not the answer. People are entitled to keep chickens ( even roosters), dogs, cats, or any other animal that they choose as long as they're cared for correctly.
