An excellent way to meet the needs of a great number of tax paying supporters of our park system. This works in other communities as a way to insure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy their parks as they wish with their dogs.

I currently drive to Port Orchard so my three dogs can run on the trails and through the fields at Howe Farm. Dogs need to run and explore, but I don't want to get the stink eye from Islanders so I don't take them off leash here. Shared space can work.

Unlike the 'official off leash areas' you seldom see a problem dog here, perhaps having a natural environment for our belov d friends ?

It is rediculous that people aren't trusted to be responsible for their own dogs. Dogs cannot run and play on a leash.

I love my dogs and want places on Bainbridge Island where they can run free. That is the natural order, and it is one of the reasons my family moved here.

For too long leash laws have been established for the benefit of people who are too prudish to own a dog, or are afraid of them or who view animals as being 'dirty'. I have been on Bainbridge Island for 16 years and always thought of us as tolerant dog lovers one and all. This feels like another attempt to over-citify B.I. and it is disheartening and distressing.

Being going there with our miniature goldendoodle Riley for years and we are very supportive of off-leash hours at Pritchard Park. It is an enlightened approach that should be adopted at all BI Parks owned and managed by BIMPRD. And it is clear to us that we need to 'bark loudly' and join together as a 'pack' to keep the pressure on the city and the parks dept to consider our constituency fairly in crafting more more sustainable approaches to off-leash dogs.

That's a great story Tom. I've been on Facebook, specifically the Bainbridge Islanders page, asking people to sign this petition. I'm happy to see its taken a big leap since I first signed. We still have a ways to go though, so I encourage everyone to broadcast this as much as possible. The only way we're going to maintain some fairness in the laws is through numbers of dog lovers barking loudly!

Pritchard park is the perfect place to let our four-legged friends run free and enjoy the water. It would be so nice to *legally* bring our dogs here. Living on an island, it is crazy to not have water that is accessible to off-leash dogs. Even if there were clear off-leash hours.

Some individuals on the Parks Board and on the City Council seem to be unaware of, or personally hostile to a wonderful and large community of people on this Island who share the love of their dog(s) and their friendship with other dog-loving people. This is more than a simple passion, it is a way of life that many of us want to see continue on Bainbridge.
