It is a joy to watch dogs be so happy on the beach. I take my young grandchildren there and have never had a problem with the dogs. Our society has too many regulations; soon we will be isolated in our homes becomes something we may do "offends" someone else.

I think the idea of off-leash hours is SPECTACULAR! We need more places like this where dogs can run in free, open spaces and enjoy a responsible day with their owners.

Anna, that's a great idea… and I'm not surprised it was Boulder, CO that came up with it. Let's keep that thought going.
Also, I'm not sure who started this petition. (Anybody want to take the credit and help lead?) I'm merely a signer who wants to see it gain momentum.
If you Google BI Parks and dog policies, all sorts of sites pop up. This is an issue that has been around for quite some time. I suspect the city hoped it would be solved with the Strawberry Hill Dog Park, but I see that as a consolation prize. My dogs won't run there. They're intimidated by other larger dogs, and besides, us owners need exercise too.

Here is the official Park's ruling in a PDF format, mostly pertaining to the Strawberry Park. Its interesting they opt to avoid making any decisions on off-leash designated times, etc. They also mention concern for wildlife.

As you can all see, this is not a simple issue. This petition is merely one small part of the efforts. The fact that debate has been going on for years means its going to take vigilance, educating and compromise among other efforts to maintain rights. Its always the squeaky wheel that gets the grease!

We need to have some place where dogs can run free and not be hammered by laws forbidding this. When I moved here, I was told how dog friendly Bainbridge was. Was? What about now!

I would love to be able to let my dog run free at the park as it a safe environment for her. I would prefer no specified times for dogs to use the park, but would certainly agree to the compromise of specific hours for dogs off leash.
