I would like to see a few other places on the water where people can take their dogs in addition to Pritchard. Between our other waterfront parks and road ends there are places within walking distance for people and we can disperse the impact that dogs do bring to the beach.

Give the dogs a break. They love it, we love it, kids love it. If you don't want to be around unleashed dogs go to any other park on the island. There are plenty.

A fenced in dog park is not suitable for many dogs. We need trails and space to walk our dogs not fenced in area.

I use Pritchard quite rarely but it is a lovely alternative to the crowded sole dog park on the island. Either expand off leash hours at Pritchard or build the 4-5 additional dog parks as originally planned.

Why not a compromise on the use of leashes in Pritchard Park? Responsible owners shouldn't be punished and relegated to a small, fenced area with no swimming option. Dog owners are not second class citizens

the off leash dog park at Strawberry Hill is inappropriate for my and my dog's needs. Human centric and not without trees she can run into while chasing after her beloved orange and blue rubber ball, it just doesn't work for us. (Believe me, I'd love it to...it's closer to my house). I just want room for her to chase her ball, run into the water to cool off, and play with her friends. Pritchard has been that perfect place for us.

Now that the Bainbridge City Council has amended the city ordinance to allow off-leash dogs on Pritchard Park on Tues, Thursdays and half day on Saturday we should celebrate this victory by taking full advantage of this opportunity. At the same time, we should be mindful of the unique opportunity this provides to showcase to the BI Parks Dept how this can work on park properties within their purview. Off-leash dog owners had been criticized by certain BIMPRD members as not representing a significant or well-organized constituency but I beg to differ and even as a disorganized (but passionate) group of citizens we have effected this important change at Pritchard Park. Congrats to those who engaged on this petition and showed up at BI Council meetings on this issue.
Now the real work begins for those of us who desire to see off-leash hours on all BI Parks. To convince an otherwise skeptical group on the BIMPRD Board we have to demonstrate 1) that off-leash hours are a viable alternative based on the Pritchard Park experience (lots of off leash dogs playing well with each other and their human counterparts) and 2) we off-leash advocates are effectively self-policing ourselves and honoring the off-leash hours standard. If we can do this (and most certainly we can) then we have a powerful argument to take before the BIMPRD Board to request expansion of this approach to BIMPRD owned and managed trails on Bainbridge.

Our pups and pooches need a place to be able to run free and confining them to being on leashes all the time isn't necessary. Please leave Pritchard Park and some other places, free to let dogs run!
