Ban Hunting with Dogs

I am tired of still hunting and having a skeleton of a dog that stinks to high heaven try to crawl into my lap because it needs food and attention. I hope they ban dog hunting deer

The use of dogs for hunting is a detriment to the animal population and inhumane. The practice of dog hunting is unethical as a hunter, the stress to the animal and the surrounding area is great, along with on most occasions the hunter will make a hurried shot which may only would the animal and or cause unnecessary suffering. The practice of dog hunting should be ended for the health and population of the animal. We should all strive to be good stewards of the animals and the land.

I moved here from a place that did not allow big game hunting with dogs and didn't think much of it. After being here 20+ years, dog hunters make one of my favorite hobbies miserable. I have been harassed and had my vehicle tampered with because I'm "in their area" of public game lands. By that, they meant the entire acreage of game lands. I've also hunted private land that gets encroach on and act like it's their right. I have many friends that gave up hunting because of this.

It is not your god given right to violate others peoples rights.

This petition needs to be reengaged with Governor Cooper as this problem with lack of legislature with a majority of ENC is causing many issues with "Dog-Runners" not respecting property lines and hunting directly off State owned roads in unsafe manners. I live in Duplin County and our Wildlife Agent has zero ability to enforce any laws, as there is LITERALLY none published on erugulations.com and no one is taking responsibility on this. We need to push to support and get more pressure to Governor Coopers office.

NC should ban hunting with dogs period! If hunters want to kill an animal then they should have to track it themselves instead of running it to exhaustion or up a tree in order to murder it. It's archaic, cruel, dangerous and inhumane.

My husband and I own 80 acres that adjoins approximately 300 privately owned acres as well as being next to 1000s of acres of federal land. We own horses and are in the beginning stages of building a horse training/boarding, rescue and rehab facility. Additionally, we are a hunting family but we do not use/run dogs. Dog runners/hunters have absolutely zero respect for private property lines and when confronted they blatantly lie about where they let their dogs loose into the woods and say that the dogs crossed multiple roads to get to my property. Obviously dogs don’t understand property lines but the dog owners do and they act like it’s no big deal that their dogs are on private property. I have picked up dogs on my game cameras on multiple occasions as they run along our shooting lanes and chase the deer. My husband's hunts have been ruined due to these nuisance animals and their ignorant owners. There have been hunting dogs in my pastures harassing my horses and they get our dogs (indoor pets) riled up when they are around my house. We have come very close to hitting a couple of dogs with our truck that have run into the road. 2 of my daughters and I caught 4 of 7 dogs on our land yesterday. I called the NC Wildlife Commission to report it but am still waiting on a call back from them. I also called our county animal control but they weren’t able to get here before the dog owners tracked them to my house. The dogs’ owners said that the other 3 were about ½ mile away, which was still on my land (my daughters were trying to catch them). These dogs are a danger to our horses as well as our boarders out on our trails as some of the horses here are afraid of dogs and others hate them to the point that they will try to kill a dog if it comes near. There is no sport in sitting on the edge of the woods waiting to shoot an animal that is running for its life because it is being chased by a pack of predators. I HATE Deer runners. I think it’s funny how y’all want to say It’s my God given right to run deer and F^€k everyone else’s right. Last time I checked it’s My God given right to say who is allowed on my property and my right to defend it. Y’all are not hunting! Y’all are drunks that don’t care about others property or the wellbeing of your dogs. Y’all don’t care if your dogs run up on someone else that has been tracking and/or calling a deer. Before I was able to buy my own land I had to hunt on Game lands and almost every day I would have a pack of starving dogs run up on me after spending hours tracking and calling deer. I can’t say how many times I would have a deer coming up on me and then here comes the dogs to run it off. Not to mention the few idiots that are stomping around yelling to help stir up the deer when they are beading down. Every deer I seen that was shot by you drunken idiots would have 20 bullet holes all over it because y’all are just shooting blindly at the deer with out a care of where your shot placement was and there is 5-20 of y’all all shooting at the same deer. Y’all shoot deer that are only a year old. Y’all aren’t the ones hunting y’all are just drinking /shooting and speeding down roads like a bunch of trailer trash fat inbreds.

This is just people trying to hate on dog hunters because they have never heard the beautiful music of 20 hounds rolling through a bottom in the woods after a beautiful buck has come strolling by. If they ever do it one time they will be in love forever

20 dogs, 1 doe--that's what I witnessed today on MY property! You call that a sport? I grew up in a family of hunters. We RESPECT hunting laws and private property. So, yeah, I'm complaining. But it is something that I'm interested in. They are trespassing on my property. Calling the game warden in northern Granville county is a joke. We've been calling for 11 years now.

Who are any of you to judge one mans hobby and heritage? It is ignorant and asinine to judge an entire sport on one situation of a bad hunter mistreating his dogs. There are tons of inadequate parents in North Carolina , so should we ban reproduction of the human race? Using dogs to hunt goes back many many many years ago. The labrador retriever was not named exactly that for retrieving tennis balls. Instead of investing all of this time into banning a loved family sport because of your dissatisfaction of how some of the animals are treated then get off your lazy asses and do something productive like investing your money into animal shelters or starting your own rescue groups for small percentage of abandoned hunting dogs. Not sitting behind a computer screen whining and complaining about something you're not even interested in. Get a hobby folks.. I suggest running dogs. Morons. But hey, Happy Easter.

I live in bullock NC.. Out here dog hunters they don't feed there dog until they go hunting... There dog r so skinny that u can count the bones... And if the get out and they fine a died deer or whatever they eat... Then the owner fine them they will beat or shot them.... Dog hunting shouldn't be legal... I will do whatever I can to stop dog hunters.... The poor dogs stuffer most of all they are being beat to death or not being feed... Not knowing what love is or any kind of kindness or being able to eat whenever they are hungry.. Running dogs in front of radios, 4 wheel drive pickup's and guns is the lazy mans cowardly way of hunting---it should be banned---the "good ole boys" need to get their butt's out of the cab and into the forrest!!!!!----At least give the prey a fighting chance!!

you can't just say every hunt club abuses there dogs because you haven't been there. at my hunt club are dogs a fat and healthy. And also dog hunters aren't fat and lazy because some people have to run the dogs through the woods. All of you that say everyone abuses there dogs are rude mean and offensive to dig hunters. Did you know that Americas first president was a dog hunter? So calling him fat and lazy. Think about that.

OH about seeing it first hand I doubt anyone would go out of their way to do so ---but if you happen to be on the blueridge parkway or near Lynchburg or Bedford Va. Just ask locals about the topic or better yeat drive through the wheats vallly area from right now til 2nd of January and again in June -August ,and again in September -October. Even if you are a dog hunting advocate , I am sure you will see what I mean.

Hello I live in the Blue ridge moutians of Bedford county Virginia ,just beneath the peaks of otter. I feel your frustration! We have every single problem you are disscuing and worse . Deer hunting with dogs isn't legal here but they can hunt bear and coon with dogs .I have tried to get along with dog hunters because there are so many of them that they show up like the invasion of Normandy ,I am not joking this is real...... 2-3 dozen trucks full of dogs and hunters ,and they do not give a crapp who they trespass on . They have numbers and false witnesses if need be they stickup for each other they post guards at their vehicles they pay off landowners . Unfortunatly the only thing they respect is someone who is willing to die to defend their property , sadly most of us are not independently wealthy we must work a job and they know that ,they your family is potentially unprotected and vulnerable . these people are organized and punctual ,sometimes even your own relatives. These guys will hint these things to those who oppose them, but never come and say it .Now this doesn't mean they act this way at every ecounter. They are not stupid some are even well connected . There are those that act respectful but they are an extreme minority. They have in years past bullied law enforcement and had shootouts with each other. I realize as ridiculous as it sounds to outsiders , I may loose my life and my relatives are not happy about the idea of me pursueing this . But somebody needs to do something , and I am tired . Everyone of us will die one day I didn't want this fight I just want to live in peace but sometimes you don't get to pick your confrontation. Nobody invades their property and parades the countryside like Genghis Khan in their neighborhood why do they bring it to us ? It's intersesting to see the comments from dog hunting advocates.. They seem to feel entitled to letting their dogs cross onto the property of lawful landowners.. There is little good that can be said about hunting deer with dogs.. Not only do the dogs have a clear advantage in stamina but deer have no natural defenses beyond their stealth and camouflage... Hunting should be a challenge.. There is no sport in letting dogs run a deer to death.. This is not hunting... nearly all the dogs I encounter are clearly abused and malnourished.. I have started leaving large piles of inexpensive dog food near the locations the dogs frequently travel.. It generally draws their attention and they lose interest in the deer.. With full bellies they just want to nap.. It's good to ruin their "hunt" for a change. Dog hunting is outlawed in much of the state.. Let's extend the ban to the rest and return the hunting experience to the way it is suppose to be..man vs game..
