I would prefer that my children be able to attend auburn, which is within walking distance in our community instead of being bused to eastern passage. That to me makes no sense. If eastern passage needs to take kids from out of their community to fill it than they really don't need a high school.

This new school is a "want" and not a "need". It is irresponsible for the government to spend taxpayers hard earned dollars on this. Please use some common sense on this issue!

This is a transportation issue that should be addressed by increasing buses to EP-morning, afternoon and late buses so the kids can be included in extracurriculars. It is not an issue whose only solution is to build a school that is not needed.

In an ideal world every community would have its own high school but the reality is that student enrolment is declining and staff and programs are being cut in existing schools province wide due to lack of funds. As parents we've accepted this for years at the expense of our children's education and yet now somehow the government has magically found $21million dollars to build this school. It is baffling! This province does not have the money to spend unnecessarily, not to mention that our school board will then have to maintain this school and its programs as well once again splitting our resources. There has to be a more rational, fiscally responsible way to accommodate Eastern Passage families. I'm sure as neighbours the communities our schools serve can work together to see ALL our children get the best education and have the most opportunities possible with the least amount of inconvenience. Wouldn't reviewing start times and adding extra buses be a more economical way of solving this issue? And let's not forget how diverse our existing schools are, losing that would be a shame.

This project is a huge slap in the face to all those in the province that have lost programs and initiatives due to a lack of funds and a tightening of budgets. We already have schools in Cole Harbour and Dartmouth under capacity, we have room for all our high school students. And will continue to have room in the future with the expected "growth" in EP too. This is politics at its worst...squeaky wheel getting greased and leaving the rest of a community to deal with the fall out. The fall out is a newly renovated High School with only 300 students, kids in EP that want to do IB or skilled trades without transportation, small high schools with limited funds, access and population to support extra curricular activities. Easy fix to the biggest concern from EP parents...change the hours of school so their kids don't have to get the bus so early. However, the high school students may not support that...I've heard they like the early hours so they can get to part time jobs in Cole Harbour...hmmm wonder where they'll work when they stay in EP at their new High School...

I do not think each community needs a school (Cole Harbour, Lawrencetown, Preston, Eastern Passage - though each are unique) - we need to use our existing schools more effectively - IB, French, Tech, Academic, Extracurricular activities (sport and non-sport) and support and grow what we have so we have enough one day to NEED another school!

I have no problem with there being a high school in Eastern Passage but make sure you have the students. I chose to live where I live because of the schools, I do not want to see the districts change and my kids have to change schools because of it.

The building of this high school is nothing but a political promiss. The numbers don't add up and do not justify the building of the new high school. This will negatively effect all the other schools in the area for the benefit of a very few stubborn residents who can't admit that it doesn't make sense.

Not only does it affect Cole Harbour and NS tax dollars, but it will shift Dartmouth school boundaries. We have two beautiful under populated high schools. A third is not needed. It's cheaper to stop now than spend another 21 million.

Completely insane. Building a new school during the midst of decreasing enrolment. Students in most of Cow Bay will have the same commute. They want the high school to attract other community infrastructure.. It's not really about the kids.

We just spent roughly $10 million of taxpayers' hard-earned money on a major renovation of Cole Harbour High -- the new school would erode enrollment at CHDHS from 900 to 300. Why undercut our existing school for a new school that the numbers do not warrant, when so many existing schools are in desperate need of repairs and upgrades?
