To take 1/3 of students out of cole Harbour high after sinking 10 million into that school over the past 5 years makes no sense. It would also further isolate children of eastern passage since they already attend elementary and junior high in that one community. It's a benefit to the students to go outside of their community and experience a different school, and meet new people. Otherwise they will be attending p through 12 with the same people.

Please don't build this school. Cole Habour, Auburn and the new school will ALL be severely underpopulated. There won't be enough kids for extracurricular activities, special programs like AP or IB and very little room for one section elective courses like Technology and Arts.

A new school in Eastern Passage is not good for anyone. The new school will be a Tier 2 school (as dictated by the NSSAF) which will place their sports teams in a league below the other high schools in metro. It will also make the newly rennovated Cole Harbour District High School too small to remain open as a viable school- and this will happen without the remainder of the school's population ever having been consulted!

Let's ensure that the decision to build a new school is one the benefits students. From what I understand EP students will receive less opportunities with the construction of a new school--not more. With all of the crumbling infrastructure we have in this province, this looks like a foolish decision not based on need, not is it a step in the right direction to serve the population it is intended to help. I oppose the construction of this school.

This just doesn't seem to be a good use of public funding if there are already a number of underpopulated high schools in the area! I grew up in a rural area - a 15 min bus ride? Oh please.

I went to CHDHS and if it weren't for that school I wouldn't have some of the friends I do. I'm from eastern passage and growing up there I was so excited to get out and be apart of a different world not in the EP bubble. This school is a waste. Why build something that will make it pointless to have other schools especially one that will cost more money than they have and they just spent all that money to make CHDHS a better school.

As an International Baccalaureate Student, a Student Council representative, a Cast member of our annual Musical, an African Nova Scotian student, and an Eastern Passage resident, I can honestly say that I feel there is NO need for a high school in our area! Not only am I thriving academically but I am thriving socially at cole harbour high! There are so many amazing opportunities for all different people with different interests at our school! Also, as an African Nova Scotian student that has always been one of maybe 8 black kids in the EP school system, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to meet people of all different ethnicities, nationalities, and backgrounds at Cole Harbour High! I truly wish the people who made this decision would have asked the student what we want rather than only being concerned with property value and a fifteen minute bus ride to school in the morning.

political vote seeking needs to NOT interfere with education needs. There are 2000 vacancies in Dartmouth high schools. Another high school is NOT warranted and NS can not afford it

Our Province is in debt and it just announced this week that it is an additional $25 million more in debt than it had budgeted for. We do not have $20 million plus to give to a community simply because they "want" it. They live less than 15 minute drive to 4 different high schools all of whom are underpopulated. It is is not a question "filling other peoples schools" : all high schools are a conglomeration of communities in a central location. The time for this discussion was when Auburn was being planned, but that time has passed. The school age population of HRM has been steadily decreasing and is not projected to increase in the next 1 years. Eastern Passage is projected to have a slight increase in population, but one that is easily handled by their existing schools. I am against the building of this school both because it is a waste of money we don't have and because it will adversely affect every student on this side of the harbour. Our high schools are already becoming too small: minature schools aren't good for anyone.

Dartmouth currently has 4 high schools that are underpopulated (approx 60% capacity). HRSB has deteriorating infrastructure, not enough teachers, specialists are being eliminated every year, and 10 million dollars was just out into Cole Harbour High, whos population will decrease from over 800 to less than 300 with this new school. This decision is fiscally irresponsible and will result in furrow cuts and will affect all of us in HRSB. We need to stop this now.

I originally thought that a new high school in Eastern Passage was warranted because of the student population, in "Eastern Passage". If the new school school would need to draw students from Cole Harbour and other areas, this is now clearly NOT the case. Where is the fiscal responsibility,especially when we are in a recession? The majority of students in EP actually want to attend high school in Cole Harbour. This is chaotic and lacks common sense.
