I’m a beach user almost everyday and I’m Hawaiian norm and raised on Oahu. We should not be kicked off our own lands that we’ve been using since before I was born! Make tourist pay if that’s the case but not locals! We keep the beaches clean and pick up after everyone. We don’t need more tourists making our beaches dirty

I am Mel Wildman, i a sure a lot of people know me by now. I oppose SB1257, HB1032. The problem behind this bill of an Act, is due to "GUT AND REPLACE". Our Senators formed a way to preclude people from opposition by frivolous amending their bills. I am also concerned with the fact that most of these bills presented are orchestrated by what we know or call in legal terms , "Hawai'i Constitution". But be advised. That constitution is questionable because of the legality of its use. 1978, was the Last con con, and in Sup.Ct., it was stated Invalid. In 1993, a small group involved with Daniel Akaka , Daniel Inoyue , President Clinton who made then an Apology Resolution. There after another constitution seemed to somehow surface after 1993, without any Con-con. The Apology Resolution is not a Law, nor is it a Legal annexation or treaty. And therefore cannot conceive a constitution that had no Congressional election. When we take this into consideration. We now have that right to question any Bills for an Act , as to their actual legislative power. At this time , both SB1257 and HB1032 are moot. Until Senate can accomplish the findings of fact legally to determine it original status. Wildman.

Hi, my name is Les Parsons (kinda of an old-timer here).
I’ve got a few things to say about the Ala Wai, and I hope you’ll bear with me.…but first - I wish to thank and congratulate Katherine Lindell for making this very useful site available to us. If you check the numerous posts, you’ll see the work of someone who is both informed and passionate.
But she is an enigma…no one seems to know who Katherine is???
She has informed me that she is not involved in any way with
the Hilton or the Howard Hughes group.
What follows is written at her request.
So now back to the topic at hand…this crappy harbor.
I’m currently in an ADA compliant slip…because of pretty severe back pain, my mobility is quite limited. Though I do wish I could again be an activist, and raise some hell.
(I do know how - ask Mr. Underwood.)
I’ve been here 20 years, plus another eight years at ($100 per to remain on the wait list (why so long a wait?)…so it seems there has been mismanagement way back when…
Old timer? Yes. I built my boat (a Cascade) in Seattle…and dreamed of sailing to warmer waters. Like here. But who knew?
Sometime after my arrival I learned of the existence of a harbor activist group, the Ala Wai Marina Board. Collectively we pestered the HELL OUT OF OUR STATE LEGISLATORS! We attended numerous hearings and various sessions at the capitol.
Our efforts included putting a stop to the scheme hatched by former Governor Ben Cayetano to privatize this facility (sound familiar to what Underwood has planned…)
I don’t mean to be a name-dropper, but at one hearing, which I attended, one of the then - House members, was our current U-S Senator, Brian Schatz.
Later, I made an appointment to meet him at his office…and that ended with Schatz coming to this harbor. We went on a walking tour, and Schatz was FLABBERGASTED at what he had seen…(we all know what was seen!) He promptly announced plans to investigate DOBOR and others responsible for what he could clearly

Do our legislators know how to read? If they would google 'public private partnerships' they would see why so many have failed and taxpayers get screwed.
PPPs are a guise to take over public assets, as promoted by the Koch brothers & their ilk.

Here we go again people! This proposal is one of many attempts over the last few decades to privatize public lands and whats worse is they wnat to do this by whats called "Direct negotiation" which means no competitive bidding and no public input. These lands almost always include beach access routs and major public facilities that are encumbered by public access to our beaches and waterways. Fisherman, paddlers , surfers etc., will be forced away from these areas beginning with the loss of all free public parking.

Higher taxes for tax payers and local residents is not the answer. Privatizing public lands is absurd, greedy, and not legal. The lands that were once fertile agricultural lands for food is being destroyed by the irresponsible decisions of the senators and representatives.

Please do not privatize the Ala Wai. There is fundraising and creative spending management of revenue to renew existing infrastructure. A Hawaiian King put the breaker to provide safe Harbor for the Transpacific race. Hawaii has a poor reputation for being boater friendly. We have the opportunity to change that with afordable state run marina that opens its arms to visiting vessels just as Hawaiian’s on the Hokulea wants when visiting ports.

Keep it accessible for the locals. No private management of public property!
