Love to see this piece of property saved and developed to become a grocery store, movie theatre, unique local shops, etc...to meet the needs of our community.

We don't NEED more cheap student housing. The city spent all that money on the park corridor just across the street in an attempt to revitalize downtown. Revitalizing downtown does not mean adding heavy traffic congestion that will bring no benefit to the region (besides to the property developers ...who aren't local). This area needs shops, cafes, a movie theater possibly, entertainment venues and many other things that will enrich the lives of the people who already live here. My husband and I are very fond of downtown Asheville for those exact reasons. Further student housing will not only increase traffic, it will likely increase crime, which has been on a major upswing in the last few years. As a matter of fact, after being members of this neighborhood for the last 35 years, we are moving away because of the congestion, the speeding students, and the upswing in petty crime and vandalism. How increasing these problems will make professional families want to live here I fail to see. My husband is an engineer, I am a veterinarian, and we are the type of family the developers claim they want to attract. However, if their project goes through it won't just be us that flees this area for someplace quieter, safer, and more family friendly. I attend one of their meetings where they claimed they would limit ingestion by making a one car per bedroom rule for parking. My husband and I laughed at that because under that rule we would not be allowed to have 2 vehicles. And such a rule means that only a single student could live in these apartments as I do not think married couples will want to stay live in an apartment where they cannot share a room. This idea is bad from start to finish. regardless of how much money these developers may be offering the city, please do not rezone!

Just say no to re-zoning! W.Walnut does not need to become an extention of the ETSU campus. 400 parked cars eating up 3 of the 6 acres is not development, that's a car dealership! The site needs a parking garage much like downtown Asheville has. A parking garage allows folks to park and enjoy all the retail that could be on W Walnut once adequte parking is provided. This site also needs retail, green space and possibly high end condos.

please do not make a mistake that we well regret for the next 25+years. these people want only to profit from this and have made it obvious they do not have the communities best interest in mind at all.

This is a crucial time in Johnson City; we are at a crossroads... do we go with the first offer to develop property, in a delicate corridor between ETSU and downtown, or do we go with the BEST IDEA... one that encourages best practices, awareness of neighborhoods and small business, and the imminent creation of a pollinator corridor in that area? A giant apartment complex is NOT the right choice for that property. maybe somewhere else, but not there. Once a vinyl sided monstrosity goes up, that area will be devalued and will lose any aesthetic appeal. Please do not rezone this property.

I'm happy that the Johnson City chamber can make a return on their investment from the Mill property, but there's no harm to anyone in slowing the process down a bit and focusing on what will benefit Johnnson City long term. Let’s just take a deep breath, do the corridor study and find synergies between Walnut Street, ETSU, Downtown, and JC’s Master Plan.

I would like to see what other possibilities could be used in this vital area of Johnson city.

Why not work to preserve signature sites in Johnson City rather than turn them into dubious commercial enterprises that often fail and detract, rather than add, to the historic character of the city.

There are better uses of that property...

with what appears to be no one in favor of this project, why does it remain an issue? the whole idea is bad from start to finish.

This is not the proper place for this development. The mill adds an aesthetic that couldn't be replaced.

I also feel this project is inappropriate for the walnut st corridor. To revitalize our downtown we need retail and restaurants.
