This is ridiculous, irrelevant to Limerick and an insult to so many great past and present Limerick people who could be suitably honoured. LCC out of touch with the ordinary citizens once again, and carried away with their delusions of adequacy...

Name the bridge after someone who played a key part in our history and deserves to be recognised thus. JFK dropped into Shannon briefly. Great guy but no relevance to our city.

This is nothing more than a transparent sop to American tourists and business interests and bears no relation to the actual wishes of the people of Limerick, who have no interest in re-naming a local landmark after a long-deceased American politician who visited here once. Stop this nonsense!

The Shannon bridge is an enduring symbol of our collective local identity and as such does not need to be renamed.

if it's not broken don't fix it. spend taxpayers money more wisely instead of wasting time on issues like this. the bridge has a name already which actually bares relevance to Limerick!

Please don't change the last bridge of the Shannon before it meets the Atlantic to something that has no real connection.

The guy may have been Irish but he also cheated on his wife and his family was rich because of pulling out of the stock market before the crash here in the US and bootlegging. Shannon for us yanks has a sentiment to it and JFK has enough things named for him.

It should remain as it is but if its to be changed it should be named either after Martin Honan or Kate Obrien

I do not see the relevance of changing the name of shannon bridge as it is the bridge over the river shannon. However, if it is being changed then it should be called after Martin Honan who was the first democratically elected Lord Mayor of Limerick. He helped feed the starving Limerick people during the famine and donated all his money and property to charity on his death. Also I would like both Kate O'Brien and the women of Limerick (Mná na Luimni) who fought and died protecting this city to be recognised (they have yet to be which is a shame)
