This is a knee jerk reaction to media hysteria. There needs to be a more tough out plan for a solution.

This is ridiculous! I hope they find a way to treat those poor babies and get them back to their normal habbits

How about you trap them, quarantine, test and release if they are fine!!!

There are better ways to deal with a rabies issue rather than kill animals that are not infected. Bait vaccines would do less damage and more good for these necessary species. All species.

please test all foxes FIRST {not kill immediately} then you must set free ones that are not sick

I live in wells and have red and gray foxes that live in woods out back. I to agree that rodents would over populate. Not to mention these animals are beautiful. Good luck with petition I will pass it on.

Please reconsider plan to trap and kill foxes. I believe this is illegal to do in the State of Maine. Foxes don't generally attack humans or pets unless rabid or provoked. There are other humane ways to manage this problem through educating the public, property deterrence other humane ways to protecting self and pets. please reconsider plan after consulting with a Maine wildlife expert on control and prevention and Maine warden.

I agree something needs to be done to contain the increased rabies issues we've been seeing in the area, but trapping and killing whatever lands in the traps and testing after the fact, is not the answer. Also, the $26,000 price tag attached to this idea, seems a bit steep! Throwing tax payer dollars at the problem without a clear thought out solution, will not magically make it go away. Not to mention this problem extends to the surrounding communities as well, and should be a shared responsibility. Let's get some game wardens and respected hunters from the area together and figure out a more practical solution.

I believe there is another alternative ...One being the rabies vaccine pellets. I do not agree with killing healthy animals

There needs to be better options

This seems like it is a fear based plan without any evidence to support this approach. Rabid animals behave erratically. How do we know they will end up in traps? This is far more likely to kill healthy animals with predictable behavior.

I am as frightened of the danger posed by rabid animals as anyone else! But my guess is that trapping and killing is far a cheaper solution than what we should be doing— spreading rabies vaccine pellets. This strikes me as so, so sad, but also inhumane, inefficient and ecologically I’ll-advised.

There is an alternative. Options need to be discussed further.

There must be other ways to deal with this challenge for foxes, other creatures and the human creatures as well. In the meantime let,s be very mindful of our surroundings, especially for our children and elderly.

Please stop this. It will not help one bit. It’s cruel.

I'm just learning about the plan for controlling rabid fox populace in South Bath. Killing them to test is not the answer: dart to sedate, quarantine, determine whether the fox is sick or not...we are living in the environment they lived in first. Consideration of any life outweighs convenience.

We absolutely need to figure out how to deal with this issue with rabid foxes. But we ask that the city convene a meeting to present a broader set of potential solutions.

There needs to be another way this does not need to happen. Do we go around and kill everybody because of the flu epidemic? Come on. Is is there lien to? We took over their space. If we can't be mindful. And look out for this. And try to take care of it in a humane way, then who the hell are we anyway? This method sounds very lazy or a quick fix when in reality It just might end up doing a lot more damage than good. Did I say it's very ignorant? Because it is. Get a grip. Get a solution. Just don't be ignorant about it. Leave the specie alone. Manage the disease humanely
