This would be a disaster for us as farmers - 30 miles from Inverness but well over a hundred to any other facility. It just means we would not bother to find out problems - too costly and time consuming. It's a ridiculous idea.

What alternative is proposed for us in the Highlands and Islands? I see no feasible alternative to servicing these areas. This will be a dreadful loss to us.

It is essential for disease surveillance to continue with a central point in the Highlands. It is too far to expect livestock farmers to transport dead stock to Aberdeenshire from the likes of Caithness and the North West coast. Also with the extensive coastline and high numbers of marine animals around the Highlands if a new disease occurs people will be less likely to take animals to the lab in Aberdeen than one relatively on the doorstep in Inverness therefore potentially allowing for the diseases to spread and with the potential for diseases to cross-species this must be picked up early. Do not let the skills of disease investigation and surveillance be lost from the Highlands it is essential for both animal and public health.

This is a vital service for livestock owners in the North west of Scotland. I am a crofter in the far north west and feel that is is yet another service under threat of centralization leaving those of us living in the rest of Scotland feeling on the periphery again
