We live in a world which we are quickly poisoning. We need to take responsibility to stop and reverse the damage we are doing to our planet. I believe that God calls us to be stewards of this earth, and divesting from holdings in hydrocarbon companies is one thing we can do to be better stewards.

I would love, too, to see solar panels on campus. And could we cut back on (or eliminate) the lawn and garden chemicals?

I also think we should be investing in solar panels, as have many home owners in the North End of Tacoma.

The students "get it" and are working hard to advance this vital issue. Climate change is coming, and academic institutions should lead the way, including by divesting from fossil fuels. Time to follow your students!

Unfortunately we have a very undemocratic governance structure. The trustees should include some elected representatives from the faculty, staff, and students. The campus is very progressive. The trustees do not reflect this.

It's time for the University of Puget Sound to align its financial practices with the progressive environmental outlook embodied in its curriculum and supported with such enthusiasm and commitment by its many student activists. Let's join Stanford University, Pitzer College, the University of Glasgow, the Rockefeller Foundation (run by the heirs of the Standard Oil fortune), and many other institutions, and do the right thing--divest from fossil fuels!
