I would like for a reasonable discussion to be had regarding this.

While I understand the feelings of Native Hawaiians and their feelings about Madam Pele, we live in the 21st century. If on action is taken, perhaps thousands of people, not of Hawaiian ancestory, but those who choose to live Aloha, could possibly loose everything. For myself, I could never, because of my age and cancer, re build. To divert the lava around Malama shoping center, to spare jobs, seems to be a viable solution. If the lava does take out home because of this, I would think the Federal Government could easily pay those who do loose homes, fair market value so they too can rebuilt. Now remember how much money we've spent on WARs over many many years.

Not diverting the lava on account of some people's superstition is like the government not stpping wildfires in California if the Native Americans consider forest fires to be sacred.

I agree with some of the comments already listed here. While I am ALL FOR respecting Hawaiian culture and ALL religions, doing nothing goes way beyond respect. When someone's religious beliefs begin affecting others that don't share those beliefs, it IS time for government to step in and take action.

It has been my contention from the beginning that "diverting the course at the source" by blowing out the cone on the south flank is the best way to deal with this small flow.

Blow out the old hole @ lower point than where it is flowing out to Pahoa and let the lava flow out the closest point to the ocean where nobody gets hurt by it and do it fast like now

Its a shame on behalf Hawaii government to do nothing. This flow is very very weak, compering to other flows from puuoo and easie could be divertet( low volume lava per minute) in fact it is 3 times less than flow that destroyed Kalapana. County Government has different agenda here

Hundreds of homes are going to be destroyed and thousands of lives disrupted (not to mention the impact on the economy and air quality - and not just for Puna) if no action is taken. Choosing to not divert it to unoccupied land is absurd.

It is amazing to me that no study seems to have been made on the feasibility of diversion. The actions of Mr. Lee worked for his house. Where is the political will to make an effort to study this issue.

Whether it's the military or some other experts who can help, it seems like something should be done. At least take a realistic look at the option.
