It's not fair to punish riders who do the best for their horses. Undoubtedly not having shoes is better for a horse.

I can understand remidal shoes/pads being out of the question, the horse is not really sound, but if sound and barefoot whats the problem, in fact they should be offering a special!

Sadly I can't show my beautiful hunter anymore as she is now barefoot. She far better balanced and hasn't slipped her field once since her shoes came off (used to frequently) despite this awful weather! A well trimmed foot has more grip and balance than a shod one with studs! This is antiquated thinking sadly. Please open your minds and educate yourselves SHGB!!

Find it really strange that this restriction is still in place surely if hooves are trimmed correctly and horse is sound what is the issue,

Totally agree with your comment Helga I was also about to say if a horse was meant to wear shoes it would have been born with them on

I really can't see a problem with a horse doing any kind of work barefoot providing that the horse is cared for in a proper manner and is not in any kind of discomfort or pain.

can't believe that a naturally barefoot horse is a bigger insurance risk than one with archaic metal shoes nailed on!

Horses with nailed on metal should be the ones to be disqualified ..also more dangerous to be kicked by said metal clad animals

If a racehorse can compete without shoes then surely a horse in a show class can. What nonsense!

If a horse needs shoes .. then it is not truly sound , surely the old adage of no foot no horse would be paramount with regards to a hunter ??

If this is the rule, your competition is not worthy of notice. Horses do not need shoes!!!

Over the years it was deemed acceptable that obvious obese horses, were often placed in the rosettes! This is now changing, if we barefooters are made to conform to this rule who's to say attitudes won't then change in favour of choice to shoe or not to shoe. I also happen to have treeless saddle also, is that the next thing to be banned?!?
