Discrimination against competing horses with remedial shoes or who are barefoot.

Why?? What a weird rule!!

So who advises the insurance company to enable it to be an expert in this matter?

Horses who require remedial shoes should be allowed to wear them & horses with such good feet that they do not require shoes should be barefoot

Horses can balance as well if not better without shoes. There is no safety issue here and I believe this ruling is discriminatory to horses who cope better barefoot.

Terrible rule lots of horses compete very well without shoes

Surely doing what is best for your horse is more important than putting shoes on because you have to. Are we not more enlightened horse people than this in this day & age?

This is a very unfair and discriminatory ruling and seems pointless.

Enlightened people understand that Barefoot works there are too many unknowledgable farriers spoiling horses' feet

It's about time that these bodies had a more forward thinking approach. I have 3 horses and all are barefoot, friends horses (4) are also barefoot and would rather veto SHB than change our approach to horse care !!

My horses are barefoot and nothing stops them. Move with the times, not every horse owner wants metal attached to their horses feet.

Silly rule with no good resion for it.

Would shoes have been banned if the incident which sparked this had involved a shod horse ? dont think so

The horses hoof provides plenty of tractuon without needing a shoe. People shouldn't be discriminated against for their choice of best hoof care approach for their horses.

Does remedial shoeing include horses with rolled toes?

I feel that the three barefoot horses that I ride and compete in actually have better grip than those who compete with shoes. The SHB (GB) rules do not stipulate studs for shod horses and so in wet/dry conditions, it may be more likely that a barefoot horse will have the better grip than a shod one! Surely it is up to a judge to decide on the day, by careful observation, whether a horse is competing safely or not ? I feel the need to prove that shoes are not always a guarantee of safety when competing. What do you think?

There is nothing wrong with a barefoot horse being competed if it is sound and healthy. This new regulations seems to be made for a certain lobby. Shoes are not the holy grail for a horse to go sound. as a matter of fact no horse was ever born with shoes.and they are often the quick fix for peopletollow them to use the horses as they please. So much about welfare.

if the horse is sound & balanced then surely however the feet are presented is irrelevant. most horses in this country could manage very well without shoes. if owners could manage the transition effectively.
