Hey everyone!

Myself and a couple of my fellow class mates have all felt that our grades received weren’t true reflections of our work and effort put forth on our assignments. We also disagree with the marking philosophy, as it was 1) posted after the due dates of both/all assignments 2) it implies that real a “A” or 90% is not achievable in gerontology 3) the marking criteria lacks any specifications toward the actual assignments and no rubrics were provided for the assignments. This petition is not intended to lower the required efforts put forth to achieve an A or 90, but it is intended to make receiving a 90 a possibility if sufficient and fair work is to be put forth. We all work hard and expect encouraging results that motivate us to continue our hard work, and a fair assessment should be given to us in return.

Updates

March 21, 2017

The volume of support shows that the grading inconsistencies in GERO3326 are a widespread concern among the student body. I have initiated contact with the department head today to request a formal review of the current marking philosophy and a meeting to discuss these grievances.

This is honestly ridiculous. How are we supposed to know what we did wrong if there is zero feedback? I put so much time into these papers and getting a grade back with no explanation is just lazy on the profs part.

agreed. difficult to understand a mark when no rubrics was provided, and no feedback was there to back the grade. Even reviewing the marking philosophy that was sent out after the final assignment it doesn't even match the mark I was provided.

It seems unfair to be given a grade without sufficient criticism or feedback on a given assignment. This feedback is used by the student to improve quality of work in future assignments. My first assignment in this class had no feedback, while the second assignment was given a lower mark with very vague feedback.
