Petition Summary and Background: This petition is to register our objection to the Highland Council charging £20 to issue a disabled parking certificate (Blue Badge). We feel that this equates to a stealth tax on illness and disability, and that it discriminates against those who cannot afford the £20 charge. We are also concerned about a distinct lack of free disabled parking spaces within Inverness City Centre and are concerned about these spaces being taken over by taxi ranks.

Action Petitioned For: We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our elected members of Highland Council to act now to abolish the £20 charge for Blue Badges for all disabled people and to establish more free disabled parking bays within Inverness City Centre, and to liase with Northern Constabulary’s Community Enforcement Officers to penalise those who park in these spaces without displaying a Blue Badge, thereby preventing Blue Badge holders from accessible parking.
