We would like to eliminate the computer shutdowns, at the very least for Senior Engineering Capstone rooms, that occur at 11pm and Midnight.

Being so close to UGRADS, we should have the opportunity to work as late as necessary, due to the complex and in-depth nature of these capstone projects.

April 11, 2015

The administration keeps giving us the same canned responses about energy saving protocols while our projects sit unfinished on locked screens. I am exhausted from chasing down people who refuse to acknowledge that engineering work does not follow a business clock. We are going to keep pushing until they understand that these shutdowns are actively sabotaging our degree requirements.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that the frustration in these labs is shared by so many of us. It has been a long road and the exhaustion is real but seeing this backing keeps me going.

The computers are needed for late night work. Engineers work late and the automatic shutoff wastes our time, increases our stress levels, and ultimately has not shown any beneficial results. Please remove the curfew.

I put in a formal request for this at the beginning of the semester and was shot down. in addition to the computer shutdown I added that the classrooms should be opened later and the building hours need to be extended. I hope this petition is just the beginning.

It has not been made clear why this computer shutdown was initiated in the first place. Engineers are consistently using the servers during this period, and shutting down the computers has created a great inconvenience for many. In the least, seniors should have access during this time. I have heard a couple "horror stories" of EE students who have lost a great amount of work due to this shutdown i.e. the notes to a very complicated processor. AND IN THE VERY VERY VERY LEAST GIVE A 10 MINUTE WARNING.

I need to use the computers. I have been denied educational experience.

Some of these projects take a considerable amount of time so being able to stay in later than midnight is crucial

Late night/early morning access was crucial for me to pass some of my classes. Couldn't have done that with the computers shutting down at midnight.

The many should not be punished for the misdeeds of the few.

Anyone who's worked on engineering projects understands how important it is to have access to a computer with relevant software at all times.
