Miami Southridge senior high school is known for its traditions! About a decade ago, Miami dade public school decided to no longer recognize the valedictorian and salutatorians at graduation; allowing schools to decide who from the student body would speak at graduation. For the past ten years, Southridge has had the elected Senior Class President hold that honor. However, this week the administration has broken this long- standing tradition and took this guaranteed privilege away from the senior class president in order to hold auditions for this moment. While no one minds the addition of another worthy speaker, we stand up in support of Dezmarie Ferraro being guaranteed the right to speak on behalf of the student body of Miami Southridge Senior High School class of 2015 that elected her. Dezmarie Ferraro has stood up for our student body time and time again, and we are now joining her in battle to claim what should have never been taken away from her. The momentum behind this effort has grown beyond my initial expectations. It is clear that the student body remains committed to restoring the traditions that define our school community.

Dezmarie has done so much for our class she deserves to speak. Graduation speech is a speech that represents the whole student body. Not the story of one person.
As a former Vice President of both my senior class and Student Government at Miami Southridge Senior, I throw my support behind the right of a student class president to deliver the graduation speech to the senior class. I’m a little taken aback that the administration is being so hostile to the traditions that make being a Spartan so iconic.
As a former Southridge Class President, I have to say that reading this is a little disappointing. I hope administration reconsiders.
I have know Dezmarie for a really long time. I can honestly attest that there is no other worthy speaker than Dezmarie. She has worked tiredlesly, to give us the best senior year that we can ever have. I believe that it was an unfair desicion on our administrations behalf, to take e this privilege away from her. You've worked extremely hard to get to where you are and you deserve to on that stage on graduation day. You are such a prestigious person at your school and your dedication can not go to waste!

I was a class officer and know all to reall the struggle a class officer goes through preparing their junior year to go to battle to stand if front of your class and say I am your president. The meetings and the planning. It's a lot for a high schooler to handle. I earned my right to stand in front of my class of graduation day and address them on their journey. Southridge is about traditions some new. Some old. But this is one I feel shouldn't have been taken away. I support you.
