We would like having Shakespeare offices in our neighborhood (at 501 EYE St. SW, Washington DC 20024) but are strongly against tacking 7 - 8 floors of commercial high-rise apartments on top of the 2 floor Shakespeare office building to pay for it.
It's not the beauty of the building, it's the height, it's the density of people and cars, it's the noise, it's the quality of life. We do NOT want to see

A SW resident too close to the misguided SHAKESPEARE HI-RISE.

This would truly be a travesty to the quality of life for residents of S.W. Growth must be thoughtful and not based on the monetary bottom line. Town hall meetings must occur to hear from those who will be most impacted--the residents. --Resident of 700 7th St, S.W.

The neighborhood as it exists right now offers a haven of peace and shade to families, seniors, singles and couples. Preserve the quality of life that exists now.

I purposely chose to live in SW twenty-five years ago because it was quiet, green, diverse and had open skies and views across the Washington Channel and Potomac
River. I am not against development or progress but I am against the onslaught of high-rises being approved for our neighborhood. City planners need to deny the re-zoning request for this parcel of land.

So much for quality of life to the inhabitants of SW, DC. As a resident on the north side of " I " St. for many decades, there is no sun for 4 months in the winter, as it falls behind the 9 story building of Waterside Towers. On the west of these residents, is located 700 7th St. , another 9 story building, that blocks the west sun. Heres an idea, just build another 9 story building on the east side as to block the sun on that side, fill in THM1 W / manure and that would be the perfect environment for growing mushrooms........ just an idea!

Our square block cannot survive with a population 20+ times greater and the overwhelming demands on the neighborhood resources.

The small lot and the location in a residential section of 3 story townhouses makes a 10 story building an eyesore and improper. Furthermore, the shadows from a 10 story building will destroy the sunshine on the playground. A 10 story residential complex will be the source of generations of complaints as the noise from the playground will be trapped in an echo canyon.

Everyone talks about the the uniqueness of Southwest's combination of low-rise, mid-rise and high-rise buildings.Yet it seems everything new that's gone up or is approved to go up is a mid if not high rise except for perhaps a few mixed in at The Wharf - all of which cuts off our previous easy view of and access to the SW waterfront. Preserve some of the SW uniqueness: the former SEU site needs to stay zoned as a low-rise building and be compatible with the immediate residential townhome community.

Don't change the character of this unique diverse neighborhood with a building totally out of scale with its neighbors.
