Develop Historic Broadway NOT wastefully widen the roadway

Grant road also should be left alone. It has been shown that Bus pull outs would solve 70% of any traffic problems and cost a lot less for both roads without disrupting so many business that the city claims it is "friendly" to. If it is jobs the city is doing this for there are plenty of current infrastructure (roads, etc) that need repairs and repaving to provide jobs.

The revitalization of downtown is a wonderful thing. it’s given me a place I can proudly bring visitors to Tucson, an aesthetically pleasing, locally cultured environment, with great restaurants, shops, clubs and cafes . As a homeowner in El Encanto (Broadway/Country Club) I am appalled at the idea of shutting down access to the newly developed downtown, in addition to the entrance I most frequently use to my own neighborhood. (no more left turn onto Camino Miramonte from Broadway) I can’t imagine the thinking. Really, was there any planning-other than thirty years ago? Even worse is the dangerous bike-lane plan which seems to actively encourage car/bicycle accidents and makes no accommodation to the existing problem of bottle-necking at the Broadway/4th Ave. intersection. The 4th Ave/Broadway intersection needs real help, rather than race-courses made for people to fight to exit “exit-only” lanes. Since the City is going to allow the building of more student housing downtown, without commensurate parking, how will the City address this? The current Broadway plan is in keeping with with prior Tucson City plans, like destroying the downtown architectural barrio gems, not requiring sidewalks or landscaping and making the town a pit. While it may level a few strip-malls, it also offers virtually nothing. All for $75 Million.

I believe many of these road changes are reflecting old ways of thinking that cars come first, whereas the way to reduce traffic is to create more space for people (on bikes, and pedestrians). I do not think removing historic structures adds to Tucson's future appeal as a tourist destination.

Instead of widening Broadway, we should allow historically important architecture and existing local businesses to remain. The plan is wasteful, destructive, and unwarranted.

Given the investment and momentum that Tucson's economy is enjoying in the downtown area, I believe it is ill-advised to modify one of the key arteries which feeds that area, especially in light of the fact that poor analytics are cited as the reason to move forward. Please reconsider.

I bike on Broadway and widening would extremely negatively impact bike access!

Tucson has wasted enough taxpayer money on projects like this. Preserve our history, don't destroy it.

Extensive research data document that widening streets leads to more traffic moving faster and causing more pedestrian and bicycle-car crashes with more serious injuries and deaths. Widening thus section of Briadway will create many more problems than it will solve. It is a waste of taxpayer money that would be better invested in local jobs and beautiful walkable streets. This is such an obvious kickback of money to someone in power. Why would you widen a street that has no outlet except a bottleneck to downtown. A fifth grader can tell you this is a stupid idea, wasted, and with no benefit to the community.

Broadway is fine as it is. I've never experienced heavy traffic there, so widening lanes would be a giant waste of time & money. I'm all for historic preservation as well.
