Develop Historic Broadway NOT wastefully widen the roadway

STOP the horrid tradition of bad planning, that has plagued this town for decades. I wonder who would be pocketing the most cash from this scheme. If analysis states that this would not improve ANYTHING, what would be the reason to go ahead with this project? Greed.

In view of the fact that all of the bond issues was voted down I see no reason at all why money should be spent to widen a road where it is not necessary.

Do NOT destroy historic Broadway . . . it is not necessary and not really helpful for traffic

Listen to the community - we want more bikability, walkability, and public transit, not more ridiculously wide roads. We want to preserve our neighborhoods and the charm of small locally-owned businesses.

Instead of wide corridors for more cars, let's provide rail service, safer bike lanes, shaded walk paths and bus stops, edible trees, and smart water harvesting.

The modern trolley would be a charming addition serving more of Tucson, depending on cost of course.

I live in the east side of Armory Park and routinely pass through the Broadway-Congress-Toole intersection several times each day. The widening will serve very little legitimate purpose, in terms of current traffic (and it will destroy so much along the route of the widening), but it will certainly further stress the worst choke-point in Tucson streets.

This project is a waste of money and unnecessary.

Broadway is currently one of the few large roads I feel safe biking on (Speedway, for example, has so many lanes of fast moving traffic that it is a major impediment to cyclists trying to move through town). Widening Broadway would make it unsafe for bikers, and since this is currently the only major east/west road on which it is safe to bike south of Glenn, this would encourage us to drive more and result in an increase in traffic. On the other hand, public transit options would discourage people from driving and decrease traffic, thus causing the current 5 lane roadway to provide more than adequate levels of service.

As a business owner in the Iron Horse Neighborhood Assoc, I do not, cannot, understand why our City leaders fail to listen to the people most affected by this insane idea to widen Historic Broadway. Please listen to the neighbors. Stop this wasteful spending of money we do not have. Spend our money more wisely!

Rather than widen, I'd suggest making it more attractive: trees, wider bike/pedestrian "lanes"....

It is also a way of bringing to light the slimy way Tucson City government has approached and conducted this project. Even though we were told notices were sent out to all our HOA. on the "new" projections, none of us ever received such notices. We are being blindsided.

This is another example of wasted efforts: on the part of a) the public who were hoodwinked into thinking their concerns and suggestions would be listened to; b) the professionals who were told by the RTA to design an unnecessary roadway regardless of the social costs to the local community; c) citizen task force, who were deceived into thinking that their opinions mattered. We all know that the RTA steals tax dollars from city residents to fund urban sprawl in the county, and that the country residents really do not care about the inner city neighborhoods or their history. We can move traffic efficiently, and far less cost, on Broadway by strategic intersection improvements (left and right turn lanes) and bus pullouts. We need to say no to the RTA and spend OUR tax dollars for city road improvements that make sense.

Why would the City even consider such an expensive project when they are $25 Billion dollars in the hole when this project won't even solve a problem which doesn't seem to exist? Disgusting and flagrant unnecessary overspending by our sitting Gov't.

I keep hearing that the Broadway widening must be done to respect the will of the voters. I voted for the RTA. THIS IS NOT WHAT I VOTED FOR. I voted for mass transit and good design, not the destruction of historic neighborhoods.

Why spend $75 million on a project like this when we need to be considering newer infrastructure to a green economy. It makes no sense at all. Please do not approve this expenditure and redirect these funds to climate mitigation infrastructure.

This project is outdated not to mention no benefit to road travel. Huge devastation to our community we need to be fighting to keep these historical buildings not how can we demolish them. Do the right thing Tucson Broadway BLVD needs to be saved not PAVED!!!!!.

What is the benefit of turning a town that has already suffered major unnecessary and irresponsible destruction of culturally and historically significant landmarks, reducing vibrant neighborhoods to heartless, bleak, vacant architectural wastelands, into a knot of highways? We do not need wider roads! Capito??? We need culture, history, tourism, small business, lovely architecture, trees, shade, bike lanes, pedestrian areas.

Broadway isn't broke. So, don't fix it. Most Tucson roads ARE broke. So, fix them.

Leave Broadway alone. You have caused enough damage with the Michigan left turn at Grant and Oracle..and with more Michigan left turns scheduled.
