My home is one of the beautiful historic homes that will be demolished by this plan.

This is just development for development's sake. I drive the road often enough to know traffic along that part of Broadway isn't that heavy.

I support this petition to encourage Tucson City Council not to proceed with the plan to widen Broadway east of downtown. This area of Tucson has many historic buildings and businesses that deserve preservation and new life as a vital part of the city. Widening the road will simply promote increased car traffic and destroy an opportunity to create a liveable corridor for pedestrians and other sustainable modes of transportation.

The wise decision ? Save Tucson's Broadway and its businesses.....Also renounce these recent destructive, ridiculous, money-wasting, history destroying, so-called "widening" plans for Broadway. . Wake up, Tucson City Council, wake up and show us that you hear the citizens' voices - and that you, too, can be an intelligent, wise Council that hears and learns from its constituents.

Check out a Wired magazine article "What’s Up With That: Building Bigger Roads Actually Makes Traffic Worse"
It is posted online.
Also a tv show " Adam Ruins Everything" debunks the notion that building more roads cuts down on traffic!

Please develop Broadway as if the existing businesses and historic buildings matter - they are more important than this silly road widening.

What's the point of widening the road?

Widening Broadway will destroy thriving businesses that depend on the locals. It's an unnecessary project and money could be used to improve Broadway in much better ways.

As a small business owner on located on Broadway, I vote no for this initiative. My business will not be demolished if this happens, and traffic counts and flow may even improve, however I still do not feel this is smart spending. The money would be more wisely spent on improving our current neglected roads that are not going to be improved from the 2012 bonds initiative.

Widening a road to reduce congestion is like enlarging a belt size to reduce obesity.

i've lived within three blocks of broadway for 30 years. it needs to be bike friendly, not a huge swath.

Why widen Broadway? It's already like a freeway/too dangerous to bike down. If you want Tucson to be a bike friendly city you can't have bike paths built alongside freeway-like roads.

When govt officials spent taxpayers money there is seldom real efficiency at work. This is another costly taxpayer expense to move the bottle neck down the street. Give us a break, we are tired of government waste.
