Develop Historic Broadway NOT wastefully widen the roadway

As a resident of Miles neighborhood, there are better uses for this money, if it can be diverted from this plan.

Times have changed! The numbers do not add up! Broadway does not need to be widened! I agree that this part of Tucson can be better served by supporting small local businesses. We want to walk and/or ride bikes or use mass transit to better enjoy our streets with our neighbors and friends. We are not a drive through community! Spend the $75 million making Broadway better nor 6 seconds faster!!

Please don't demolish Broadway! Stop using outdated traffic models to guide development!

This project is an unnecessary waste of time and money. I have no desire to see that neighborhood bulldozed into yet another strip mall.

Money would be better spent on light rail for Broadway

I am against the widening of the roadway. It is both unnecessary and wasteful

The future of our neighborhoods are in there balance.

I live in Armory Park, immediately south of downtown, before which I lived in Rincon Heights, a residential neighborhood bordering the "Sunshine Mile" stretch of Broadway in question. I do not have a car nor do I drive. As a pedestrian who logs many miles a day on foot, many more miles on SunTran Route #8, which serves this stretch of Broadway, and still more miles on the "Modern" trolley, which serves the University, Downtown, and the Mercado, I know firsthand where traffic gridlock lies. You see it NOT on Broadway east of the railroad overpass, but strictly in the downtown where traffic crawls, even outside of rush hour. This is a plea to our CIty Fathers: Please LISTEN. Listen to the people you serve. Widening ANY feeder street to the downtown is madness. When Rio Nuevo came to call ten years ago, did anyone THINK to alter the width of the roads through the downtown? Did anyone THINK to destroy the historic structures that line Broadway and Congress? Of course not. So why is the "Sunshine Mile" any different? Certainly the landscape and real estate lining this stretch of Broadway badly need help, but please consider that this area was -- and still is -- largely residential. It contains historically significant structures that speak to the local "color" we hold precious in this city. Such character-rich properties should hold priority over an expanse of asphalt that possesses no personality at all. Besides which, there are many better uses $75 million could be put to in this city. Perhaps the logic is that if you widen Broadway, you'll be able to feed more customers to the commercial businesses you hope to attract, thereby increasing your tax base. Okay, but do it somewhere else. This part of the inner city is best served by small, LOCAL businesses that people in the surrounding residential neighborhoods can WALK to without getting into a car. We need to put our hard-earned tax dollars towards a local, sustainable, climate change- ameliorat

Please leave Broadway intact! Stop spending our taxes on unnecessary things when our streets are so badly in need of repair.

STOP the wasteful and unnecessary spending

Don't waste my tax dollars on a useless project! $75 million for a glamor project that destroys much and improves nothing of consequence is unconscionable. Tucson deserves better!

Wider & safer bike lanes instead.

I live in Sam Hughes. It is beyond ridiculous to waste my tax money on this unnecessary project. So many better ways to spend money. This area is not a bottleneck. There are many more congested places in the city.

To me it seems off base to widen Briadway for 2 miles and destroy multiple businesses only to then feed down to one or two lanes through downtown. I'm just saying common sense should prevail.

This is a hugely wasteful and unnecessary project. In these times of economic challenge for the city, abandoning this project would be a wise decision. Please say NO to Broadway widening.
