Develop Historic Broadway NOT wastefully widen the roadway

I bike commuted 5 days a week down this stretch of Broadway last year. Expansion of Broadway, and the probable additional traffic that will bring, will have a huge negative effect on bike commuting. Let's not turn Tucson into another Phoenix!

There is no need to tear down businesses to widen the road or create a bottleneck to get to downtown. We could even (eventually) run the street car down Broadway and not need to expand.

There are many things that would improve Tucson traffic. The widening of Broadway is not one of them.

Preservation is an excellent way to spend money and make the community more inclusive and vibrant! This would bring in business, as well as tourist!

This plan is old and foolish. We need to account for infill development, not hand a new thoroughfare to individuals living out at Houghton Road. Sane, medium density urban renewal is the path we should take.

Please consider the beauty and historic value of the buildings and businesses along Broadway that are facing destruction. Once gone, they can *never* be brought back. Please ensure the residents/people have a voice - not the developers.

Widening will just add to huge bottleneck and backup already happening at Congress. Tucson is cool because it retains its history and local business.

I grew up a few blocks from Broadway, and when I visit home, I see that traffic still moves as swiftly as it did 25 years ago. There is no problem that needs "solving" by widening the road at huge cost and losing buildings and hurting local business in the process. The best thing I've seen happen to Broadway is the pedestrian light at Treat that allows cyclists and walkers to safely use the full length of the bikepath. Folks in Broadmoor can now cycle/walk all the way to Himmel Park or the UA on dedicated paths. Super! PLEASE use resources wisely on improvements like this that bring real value, not on projects that will clearly diminish quality of life for business owners and neighbors!

I do not support widening Broadway. Instead we should be extending light rail access and redeveloping for walkable and bikable neighborhoods along public transit routes in an overall plan for future climate friendly, sustainable tucson.

There are so few historic spaces in Tucson--please preserve the ones we do have, and work to make them enjoyable places to visit, walk, and bike.

Tucson can modernize without loosing its history. We should be a model city to show we can maintain our identity and NOT try to look like a mini LA. We need economical, environmental and community SMART. What is now proposed is another big expensive road and more of Tucson's identity wiped out.

Repair and resurface the major streets in Tucson first. We look like a third world country. Broadway is in good repair comparatively. Do your jobs for the community.

A very ridiculous project. This will continue to keep Tucson backwards.

Asphalt doesn't give us any sense of place. Please honor what makes Tucson special - there are other, better solutions for traffic flow.

I believe spending $75 million to widen Broadway would be a complete waste of money. I have travelled Broadway at all times of day, and do not see a problem. Leave Broadway alone, please!

I believe development of historical Broadway is important. Improvements to pedestrian, biking and public transit is more healthy for our city than destruction of history to accommodate more cars.

The plan to widen Broadway is based decades old, and now flawed information from a development paradigm that no longer exists. Furthermore, with the introduction of self driving vehicles on the not to distant horizon, a huge investment in widening Broadway will be a complete waste of time and resources. Most voters didn't have a clue as to what projects were included in the RTA budget and were led to believe that it would "fix gridlock" and repair potholes. We all know that the Broadway widening project won't solve either problem. So, there is no reason to think that rejecting the Broadway widening project would be against the wishes of the voters. Please reject this project. It doesn't make sense in today's world and is a complete waste of our very limited financial resources.

Why spend $74 million for no improvement in traffic flow. Please vote no to this wasted expense that would hurt a historic neighborhood.
