This building should be saved, sensitively renovated, preserving and restoring its important detailing.

As chairman of the Miami-Dade County Historic Preservation Board and former chair of Miami Beach’s H.P.B., I’ve been reviewing designation reports for nearly thirty years. I believe this structure is of exceptional design quality and warrants designation. The incessant development pressure to rid South Florida of these important architectural resources denies future generations the ability to appreciate, understand and study our past. Demolition is forever!

The unique beauty of coconut grove will be lost if developers are allowed to strip away the character and fauna. It's one of the few places left with community and for the most part buildings built on a human scale. I moved here from Miami Beach which developers overbuilt. The Gables is looking more and more like a manufactured overbuilt bland town.

Please preserve this elegant building which is so much a part of the Grove's history and an important part of America's architectural heritage.

It verges on the criminal that the Coconut Grove bank building was gutted this past week. The city needs to start thinking like a mature metropolis rather than a wild west upstart. We deserve zoning protections that preserve significant architecture and the character of communities.

Ken was thoughtful and very successful in designing a 'Grove' office building. This building must be saved!
