As residents of Des Peres, MO, we are OPPOSED to Bill 16-2793 changing the start time of construction from 8am to 7am Monday through Saturday (Labor Day to Memorial Day).

Concerns include but are not limited to:

  • Current Des Peres ordinances preclude the start of construction prior to 8am to regulate disturbance and enable children to safely walk to neighborhood schools.
  • Residential neighborhoods in Des Peres experience an extensive amount of infill housing, generating heavy traffic / congested streets due to numerous contractor and construction vehicles and heavy equipment trucks.
  • Narrow streets and the absence of sidewalks put children at greater risk.
  • Contractors already arrive earlier than the current 8am start time to residential construction sites, often in violation of the existing code. There is a need for greater enforcement of the existing ordinance vs. moving the start time to 7am which would result in even earlier arrival times ie. the 6:00 hour.

The Board of Aldermen who serves Des Peres must prioritize citizen safety over builder convenience. Vote NO on Bill 16-2793 at the Nov. 14th Board of Aldermen Meeting.
