Long overdue in derry skateboarding has always been popular in the town and with no facilities available people are left to use public walkways and parks etc.

It’s a disgrace that there’s never been a public Skate Park in this town , for skaters, BMXers rollerblades & scooters !!

A skate park would be a fabulous resource for all the people young and old who love this sport. It saves them having to use places which are not fit for purpose.

The city of Derry would benefit greatly from the addition of a dedicated skateboarding park.
It is well documented that the presence of a skate park reduces illicit behaviour by providing designated spaces for positive activities and curbing unlawful behaviour.
Skate parks also provide safe environments for skateboarding. The most common injuries are falls due to surface irregularities an collisions with motor vehicles or pedestrians.
The presence of a skate park would reduce damage to private property.
Skateboarding has physical health benefits and would help curb childhood and adolescent obesity, as well as provide mental health benefits in the form of stronger social connections and regular exercise.
