The meal plan is horrible and is stealing my money. I live in a duplex and cook my own food and I haven't used any of the meal swipes at all. They don't even roll over per week, so every week I'm losing about $30 (because I have the 3 swipe plan). I have no intention of buying school food because I don't eat meals that big and I also think home cooked meals taste better, are more convenient, and are much healthier (as well as cheaper). But the plan doesn't let me opt out of meal swipes, so I am losing about $750 a semester. If I were to use it at all, it would be at community dining options, such as Two West or Almost Home, but I still haven't gone yet so I don't think I will be going often anyways. We are paying for these plans and losing all of the money, unwillingly, and I STILL have to pay for food at my duplex, so I'm just wasting money. P.S. The plan says it includes Marvin's, but Marvin's has informed me they do not accept Tiger Cards anymore. Thanks DePauw.

By changing the meal plan to a number of swipes per week, my eating schedule will be majorly affected. Not only do I know how to budget my money so that I don't run out at the end of the semester, I also use way more than just three swipes in a day. I do not always eat three solid meals, but more often than not swipe multiple times a day to get snacks or coffee to keep me going. Limiting the number of swipes I can get a day will make it so that I cannot eat at the times that are convenient to me or to my hunger cycle. I don't want to have my meal plan system changed because of other people who haven't yet learned how to budget their money throughout the semester, a skill that students need to develop to survive in the real world. Plus, as an independent student, this change affects me more than it affects a majority of students on this campus.

As a mother of a vegitarian student who just committed to DePauw I can say that food choices was one of the areas we felt the University needed to improve, so seeing choices reduced is not something we want to see! We were hoping to see MORE choices not fewer.

This would be a huge mistake. Limiting the amount that students can spend elsewhere does little to teach them financial responsibility. The real world experience of not having money left for food is a valuable lesson but in a safe environment.

Local businesses should be able to get in on the swipe system, allowing DePauw students to support local businesses. If the concern is that enough students won't eat at campus dining options, then perhaps those are not a good enough value and aren't being competitive enough. I encourage the school to let students make their own choices, don't force them into something they don't want. That will only hurt both the students and the local community.

I really love the flexibility of the current meal plan. Any time we buy something, we have the ability to see how much money is left in our account, so people who are losing track of their money and spending too much too early only have themselves to blame - not the current meal plan. There is no reason to change it.

The hub food is barely ever up to par. I usually end up throwing away more than I eat because it either tastes bad or has something in it that is obviously not fresh. I like eating at The Duck and Two West because I can eat something that I know will be worth my money.
